Philadelphia Flyers

Don’t look now, but all of a sudden the Philadelphia Flyers are just two points away from third place in the Metropolitan division. Now, granted, the Metropolitan division is arguably the weakest division in the NHL, but still, give the Flyers credit for bouncing back after a dreadful start.

The suddenly surging Flyers have won 8 of their last 11 games, and have earned a point in 9 of those 11 games. The key to their success is goaltender Steve Mason has been a wall in front of the net for the Flyers; he’s been a wall all season long, but the Flyers have finally put some goals in the back of the net. In their 9 wins the Flyers are averaging 3.33 goals.

This will be the second game of a 6 game road trip. After beating the Nashville Predators in a shootout, the Flyers will look to continue their success and get over .500. It’s going to be an interesting game versus the Wild. The Flyers are very hot, but now they face a strong defensive team. It’s going to be a good game to watch, a very intriguing game between two teams that need wins and are very strong defensively.

Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild not too long ago were one of the hottest teams in the NHL, now, they’ve suddenly gone ice cold. After winning 9 of their first 11 games in November the Minnesota Wild have hit the skids. They ended November losing their last 4 games only earning 1 point in that time.

Defensively, the Wild have been great all season long. Josh Harding has been one of the best NHL goalies this year and during the losing streak he has been solid. The problem is the Wild have lost their offensive touch of late. They’ve only scored 4 goals in their 4 losses.

While it’s only a 4 game losing streak, you can’t afford to struggle even for a couple of games in the West. Just a week ago the Wild were somewhat safely in the top half of the West. Now, they are outside the top 3 in the Central division and are only a point ahead of the Phoenix Coyotes and two points ahead of the Vancouver Canucks for two wild card spots.

After losing four games in a row and playing at home, I expect the Wild to come out and give a very strong effort to bounce back and get back in the win column.

Danny’s FREE NHL Pick:

When you factor everything together the best pick I see is the under. The Wild are too big of favorites and I just don’t trust the Flyers. To be fair, the Flyers do have value, but all in all, when you have two teams that, for the most part, struggle to score and are very good defensively with very good goaltenders; I believe the best bet is the under.

Pick: Under 5 (-116)
