Flyers vs Blackhawks Gambling Odds

After losing three games in a row, the Blackhawks have won two games in a row by a score of 6-2. The Flyers are still in the playoff race in the East and will look to snap a two game losing streak versus the Chicago Blackhawks who maybe a bit leg weary after playing Tuesday night.

Both teams in their last five games have the same record (2-2-1), but have gotten there in different ways. The Chicago Blackhawks have won their last two games in a row and the Philadelphia Flyers have lost their last two games in a row.

The most interesting thing about this stat is the Flyers. What I mean by that is when you look at their last five games the Flyers have scored 14 goals. This is an uptick in scoring for the Flyers. The Flyers are one of the worst teams in the NHL in terms of scoring goals. The Flyers are 27th in the NHL with 2.23 goals per game.

On the defensive end, the Flyers haven’t been there. And that’s a surprise as their defense was keeping them in games and a big part of why they are still hanging around in the East. In their last five games, the Flyers are giving up 17 goals (3.40 goals a game.). That’s a far cry from their season average of 2.53 goals a game.

So, the Flyers have really flipped the script of late. A defensively sound team that hasn’t played well of late, but their offense has picked up the pace when it was an absolute disaster for the majority of the season.

For the Blackhawks, going 2-2-1 at any point is always going to raise eyebrows. That’s just how good the defending champs are. But, when you look at their games and the stats there’s nothing really unusual about the Blackhawks. It’s just part of the long NHL season.

As we mentioned, the Blackhawks are 2-2-1 in their last five games, but offensively they’ve scored 20 goals which is 4 goals a game. And that’s quite a number. That’s more than their season average of 3.58 goals per game. Defensively, there’s nothing really unusual going on. They’re still leaky on defense and allowing goals. They’ve allowed 3 goals a game in their last five and their season average is 2.67.

Danny’s FREE NHL Pick:

As you might guess I’m leaning toward the over. When you look at both teams, there’s not a lot of value between then. While the Blackhawks will more than likely when, the -215 isn’t good value. The Flyers have a lot of value, but that isn’t the very best pick in this game.

So, we look towards the Over/Under and in this game I live the over. Both teams of late have been scoring the goals in bunches and giving up goals in bunches. Granted, Chicago scoring a bunch of goals isn’t a surprise as they are the most explosive team in the NHL. But, the Flyers scoring goals and giving up goals is a surprise, as we mentioned above.

All in all, I like the over. Look for both teams to score some goals in this game. The Flyers might be able to jump on the Blackhawks early, but as we’ve seen this year the Blackhawks can score quickly and fight their way back.

Pick: Over 5.5 (+105)
Prediction: Chicago Blackhawks 4 – Philadelphia Flyers 3
