On Saturday, the Boston Bruins came back from a 2-1 goal deficit only to score two goals in the final 1:29  to stun the Penguins. The Bruins took that momentum into Sunday versus the Toronto Maple Leafs and really put it on the Maple Leafs winning 5-2.

Now, after coming off two big wins versus Eastern Conference rivals, the big concern for the Bruins coming into the Calgary game is a letdown.

Calgary is one of the worst teams in the NHL and the only thing that beats the Bruins is if they don’t show up to play. To be fair, though, the Flames have been playing better of late.

The Flames in their last 10 games are 5-4-1.

The big key in this game is Boston might not be up for it. We could see a Bruins team that just isn’t there 100% physically and mentally. What that means is we could see the Bruins struggling to score goals. Defensively, the Bruins are always tight, but offensively they aren’t always consistently explosive.

This could be one of these games where the Bruins only get 1 or 2, maybe 3 goals in the back of the net.

Statistically, the Boston Bruins are the best defensive team in the NHL. They only allow 1.97 goals a game and they are matched up with a Calgary team that isn’t exactly explosive. Calgary is 18th in the NHL in goals per game with 2.62.

Offensively, Boston is good. When they are on their game they can put up the goals. They are 11th in goals per game with 2.77. Calgary, though, is one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. They allow a whopping 3.34 goals per game which is third worst in the NHL.

Danny’s FREE NHL Pick:

All in all, this is a tricky pick. The Bruins are the heavy favorites and they should win, but there’s no value. On the flip side, you really can’t trust the Flames. Even if the Bruins don’t show up 100% they still may end up beating the Flames.

So, looking at other options and I believe the best pick is the under.

I’m banking the Bruins don’t show up – at least on the offensive end. Defensively, the Bruins always show up, but offensively, the Bruins are hit or miss. I’m banking that the Bruins start slow and don’t really get it going in this game.

I believe the Bruins will score 2 or 3 goals, but Calgary should struggle scoring goals on Boston. Boston is just really good defensively that I believe the best pick is the under. It isn’t the best value, but it’s the best in this game.

Look for a low scoring game with the Bruins coming out on top.

Pick: Under 5.5 (-130)

Prediction: Boston Bruins 3 – Calgary Flames 1
