Both teams could officially be eliminated Monday however if things don’t go their respective ways – both teams could know their fate by the time they hit the ice Monday.

Neither team has done themselves any favors the last couple of weeks – the Stars are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games while the Sharks are 5-4-1 in their last 10. The San Jose Sharks won the first two games against the Dallas Stars this year, each at American Airlines Center, by a combined score of 10-5.

The Dallas Stars need to win all three of their remaining games and have to hope that some of the teams they are chasing lose all of theirs – not a good prospect at all! They are coming off a good OT win in Nashville – their second straight extra-time win but the optimism stops there.

As it has been all season long, the Dallas offense has done its part – they are averaging 3.09 goals per game. They have scored 16 goals their last four games and have been led by Tyler Seguin who has scored in four straight games while adding three assists over that span.

Jamie Benn has five points in three games, Travis Moen has three points in two games and Patrick Eaves has seven points in eight games. Offense likely won’t be the problem Monday night – defense as always could be however.

It is expected that Kari Lehtonen gets the call between the pipes Monday – he hasn’t been very good. Lehtonen is 3-3-0 in his last six starts with an unflattering 4.09 GAA and versus Dallas he is an ugly 2-6-2 in 10 starts with a 3.42 GAA.

Overall the Stars have allowed a terrible 3.23 goals per game this season and have surrendered 22 goals in their last five games overall – yuk.

The San Jose Sharks enter off a loss to the lowly Arizona Coyotes – that says it all! The Sharks look like they will miss the playoffs for the first time in 10 years – you have to think the morale inside the room is pretty darn low.

The Sharks have been OK defensively lately – prior to giving up five goals to the Coyotes last time out they surrendered just six non-shootout goals in their previous four games. However the Sharks have allowed 5 power play goals on the last 12 chances – not a good sign when a pretty good Dallas power play is coming to town.

Antti Niemi figures to get the start between the pipes Monday – he hasn’t been great lately. Niemi is just 3-5-2 in his last 10 games overall with a 3.23 GAA. However he is 4-0-1 in his last five starts versus Dallas with a 1.58 GAA.

Offensively San Jose should be fine – they have scored 11 goals in their last three games and have continues to do their part for the disappointing club.

Patrick Marleau has three points in two games, Brent Burns has six points in six games and Joe Pavelski and Matt Nieto each have two points in two games.

San Jose will score some goals – it is a question of whether or not they will be able to keep the puck out of their own net!

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 6-2 in DAL last 8 vs. Pacific.
• DAL are 11-4 in their last 15 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 8-3 in DAL last 11 games following a win.
• SJ are 3-9 in their last 12 Mon. games.
• DAL are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in San Jose.
• Home team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.

The Sharks have won four straight in the series, including two this season in Dallas. San Jose hasn’t lost in regulation at home to Dallas since March 5, 2011, going 7-0-1 since while limiting the Stars to 13 goals. The Starts have won six of the last seven games away from home.

The Stars and the Sharks have two things in common – good offenses and bad defenses.

Because of that the Over is the play here. There is some value with taking San Jose on the Moneyline but you have to think there will be some goals scored here.

The Over – 5 1/2 goals

This game has 4-3 written all over it. Take the Over in what should be an entertaining offensive show.
