The Stars have won three straight games and eight of their last 10 while the Flames are 7-2-2 in their last 11 games overall. Perhaps the biggest news ahead of Wednesday night’s contest is the news out of the Dallas camp that Jamie Benn may miss the game due to injury – he is Dallas’ top scorer and will be sadly missed against a motivated Flames squad. Dallas has fared very well against Calgary in recent meetings however – they are 5-0-1 in their last six matchups overall.

Dallas’ playoff hopes are slim to say the least but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t immune to making things miserable for a few teams that sit ahead of them in the Western Conference standings. As mentioned Jamie Benn who has six points in his last three games suffered an undisclosed injury Monday and didn’t practice Tuesday.

If there is a team that can absorb the loss of one of its top offensive threats, it is Dallas however – the team averages a Western-Conference best 3.08 goals per game and has scored 10 goals during their current 3 game win streak. Patrick Eaves has four points in two games, Tyler Seguin has three points in three games, Alex Golikoski has three points in two games and Ales Hemsky has two points in his last two games. The offense has done its part all season long for Dallas – no reason to think differently about Wednesday night’s matchup.

The Dallas defense has completely turned itself around and it corresponds with the Stars recent uptick in play. Kari Lehtonen is 6-1-0 with a 1.72 GAA in his last seven starts and is 7-1-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average in his last eight starts against the Flames. Dallas still allows 3.15 goals per game –among the worst marks in the NHL.

The Calgary Flames just aren’t going away – they beat the Avalanche last time out and have gained a point in eight of their last 10 games overall. They are 2-1-1 on a current five game homestand and they know that every game is of paramount importance from here on in.

For the Flames it has been the offense that has carried them this month – they have averaged 3.45 goals in March and have scored nine goals in their last three games overall. Sean Monahan has eight goals and five assists in 11 games this month, Jiri Hudler has 17 points in March, Johnny Gaudreau has 13 points this month and the secondary scoring has been doing its part as well. The third line featuring Lance Bouma and Markus Granlund combined for five points Monday. David Jones has two points in two games and TJ Brodie has four points in his last six games.

The balance up and down the lineup has continued making the Flames an awfully tough out each and every night.

Defensively the Flames have taken a bit of a step back however allowing 23 goals in their last eight games.

The starting keeper hasn’t been names as of yet – Karri Ramo is 2-2-1 in his last six starts with a 3. 00 GAA and Jonas Hiller is 1-1-0 with a 3.08 GAA and .887 save percentage in his last two games.
