The Florida Panthers will be after their first win of the season Monday night when they host the Ottawa Senators who are coming off their first win of the season – a 3-2 shootout win against the Lightning on Saturday night.

Both teams went through some radical changes this past offseason but one thing remains constant – the Panthers look a lot like one of the worst teams in the NHL early on.
Ottawa
The Senators bid adieu to their long-time leader Jason Spezza this past summer opting to go a different direction in terms of leadership. The team is Bobby Ryan`s – he promises a grittier brand of hockey as we head deeper into the season.
Kyle Turris, Milan Michalek and Erik Karlsson are the other stars on the team – they bring an OK amount of depth that should be enough against a young Panthers team.

That said goal scoring could be an issue this season for the Senators – they have four goals in their first two games and are averaging an OK 27 shots per game. That`s the bad news. The good news is that Ottawa gets a crack at a Florida team that has been leaky to say the least so far this season.
Defensively Ottawa has yet to hit stride – they have given up a whopping 38.5 shots per game and have surrendered five goals in their two games thus far. Craig Anderson figures to get the start between the pipes although Robin Lehner was in goal for Ottawa`s only victory this year.
It is pretty hard to win in the NHL when you are giving up four goals per game – that`s exactly what the Panthers are doing after two games. Roberto Luongo is off to one of his patented slow starts – he is 0-1-1 with an ugly 5.71 GAA and .826 save percentage.
A poor defense is especially bad when the offense if failing to click. Florida has scored just three goals in their first two games – a trend that figures to continue as the young nucleus learns how to win in this league.

Simply put the Florida Panthers just aren`t a very good team. Their best player Roberto Luongo hasn`t been good leaving a young team trailing off the bat in both of their games so far. There is a ton of young talent in Florida but like the Edmonton Oilers, talent doesn’t always translate to wins. It`s not that I love Ottawa – it`s a matter of me not liking Florida in the least!
