The Wings are coming off a disappointing 4-1 loss against Vancouver Saturday night while the Oilers enter on the heels of an impressive 5-2 win against a good Islanders club on Sunday night.

The Detroit Red Wings enter Tuesday night’s game having lost three of their last four games on the road – a date with the Edmonton Oilers who they have owned the last four seasons may be just the cure.

Detroit is an unfathomable 13-0-1 in the last 14 meetings between the clubs and is 5-0-1 in their last six visits to Rexall Place.

Offensively the team has been average this year – below average on the road however.

That can’t be said for Tomas Tatar who has 10 of his club-high 16 goals on the road. He has 21 points in his last 24 games and is the straw that stirs Detroit’s drink. Gus Nyqvist has seven points in five games, Nik Kronwall has four points in four games and Johan Franzen has two points in his last two games.

Conspicuously absent from Detroit’s Hot List are the top two Detroit scorers – Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. They haven’t been lighting the score sheet on fire lately but are certainly as dangerous a duo as there is in the NHL.

It is only a matter of time before Zetterberg and Datsyuk catch fire – it could come against an Edmonton team that has had no answer for them in the past.

Jimmy Howard figures to get the call between the pipes after playing OK but taking the loss in Vancouver Saturday. He is a superb 10-0 in his last 10 starts versus Edmonton with a 1.37 GAA and has been stellar for his club this year.

The Edmonton Oilers have quietly gained points in four straight games since head coach Todd Nelson officially took over – they are 2-0-2 in their last four games and are coming arguably their best effort of the season Sunday. That said the Oilers are still at the bottom of the league in goals for (2.18 per game) and goals against (3.30 per game).

The Oilers have been getting contributions from some newcomers to the roster – Matt Fraser has two goals in four games and Derek Roy has a goal and an assist in four games since being acquired.

Jordan Eberle has three points in three games, Taylor Hall has six points in seven games and Matt Hendricks has two points in his last two games. The arrow has been pointing up for the Oilers for the first time in a long while but no Oiler – I mean no Oiler has had success against the Wings!

Ben Scrivens should be between the pipes – he is 1-0-1 with a 1.44 GAA and .951 save percentage in his last two starts while Viktor Fasth is an ugly 0-2-0 with a 6.35 GAA and miserable .757 save percentage in his last two starts.

Neither keeper has a goals against under 3.00 – we can expect the Wings to find the back of the net a few times on Tuesday.

• Under is 9-2-2 in DET last 13 overall.
• DET are 7-20 in their last 27 Tue. games.
• DET are 3-8 in their last 11 overall.

• Under is 6-2-2 in EDM last 10 vs. Atlantic.
• DET are 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.

The Detroit Red Wings are still in that top tier or two of NHL teams while the Oilers still occupy the basement of the bottom tier. To think that the Oilers will win two straight against top 10 NHL teams is far-fetched at this point of the season. Detroit will win this game – but there is zero value in taking them on the Moneyline.

The play here is the Over – 5 1/2 goals. The Wings should be motivated to bring their best against one of the most generous teams the league has seen in years.

The Oilers should be able to score too – they enter Tuesday night’s game with more confidence than they have had in months – for what that’s worth!

The Over – 5 1/2 goals

This game has 5-2 written all over it!
