The Rangers, who have traditionally struggled in California beat the best team in the NHL last night – the Anaheim Ducks for their 11th win in their last 12 games while the Kings haven`t looked great lately in dropping three of their last four games.

For the New York Rangers, everything is going well – their offense kept clicking last night in a 4-1 win last night and the defense continues to shine. New York will be out to make a statement Thursday against the team that denied them their first Cup since Messier!

Let`s start with the New York defense – over the last month they have allowed just 1.50 goals per game – they allowed just one last night to one of the more explosive clubs in the game.

Henrik Lundqvist who has been largely responsible for those impressive numbers (he is 10-1-0 in his last 11 starts with a 1.62 GAA) will sit tonight in favor of Cam Talbot who is 3-3-1 in seven starts but is coming off a 1-0 shutout against Carolina in his last start back on December 21.

All three of his wins have been shutouts – he will be hoping that the boys in front of him are as effective as they were the night before – the Rangers made the Ducks look ordinary in the win.

Offensively the Rangers have been a nice surprise – they average 3.11 goals per game – top third in the NHL.

Everybody is Hot and everyone seems to be contributing offensively for the Rangers at the moment – JT Miller and Rick Nash who is second in the NHL in goals each have three points in two games, Martin St. Louis and Ryan McDonagh each have four points in three games, Kevin Klein and Chris Kreider each have three points in three games and so on and so on.

New York is deep, they are confident and they are dangerous – no matter who they have on the ice right now – unfortunately for Los Angeles.

The Kings have had a difficult time catching fire and resembling the team that beat the Rangers in five games last year. They barely sit in a playoff position at the moment and no aspect of their game jumps off the page. The Kings are middle-of-the-road in goals for (2.78 per game) and goals against (2.45 per game).

LA should be a rested team unlike New York. They last played Saturday – a 7-6 OT loss to the Predators – their third loss in their last four games overall.

Jonathan Quick will get a chance to right the ship Thursday after getting pulled against Nashville after surrendering three goals on just nine shots. Quick went 4-1 with a 1.63 GAA in last season’s Cup final.

He, like the team hasn`t quite discovered the form that has seen them win two Cups in three years – not a good sign with the scorching Rangers coming to town.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Offensively the Rangers have been OK lately. Marian Gaborik has picked up his game after a slow start and has 11 points in his last eight games, Dwight King and Alec Martinez each have three points in two games, Drew Doughty has three points in three games and Dustin Brown has shaken a slump and has two points in his last two games.

The Kings still have some key players mired in slumps however – Justin Williams has one point in his last five games and Tyler Toffoli is pointless in his last three.

NHL Gambling Trends

• NYR are 10-1 in their last 11 overall.
• Under is 22-8-7 in NYR last 37 Thu. games.
• Under is 5-2-1 in NYR last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 16-4-8 in LA last 28 vs. Metropolitan.
• Over is 8-2-2 in LA last 12 overall.
• Under is 36-13-11 in LA last 60 Thu. games.
• Under is 4-1-3 in the last 8 meetings.

It is hard to fathom that a team that has won 11 of their last 12 games is a rather huge underdog in this game but that is the case Thursday night.

The Rangers have been sensational lately – they made the best team in the league look simply average.

With the added motivation of playing the team that beat them in the Final last year, expect the Rangers to keep the momentum going Thursday.

New York Rangers +138

If they can beat the Ducks, I have faith that they can handle the Kings.
