The top team in the NHL standings will be without arguably their best player for three to four weeks but enter on a four game win streak. Perry’s absence may hurt the Ducks eventually but against the Oilers his absence likely won’t make a huge difference.

Somehow it is status quo in Edmonton – the team lost for the 12th time in 13 games last night and still all of the coaches and the players still have their jobs. The team is tied for last place in the NHL with little reason for optimism going forward.
The Oilers did beat the Sharks two games back but fell back to earth in a 5-2 loss last night. They are still averaging just 2.21 goals per game and they are still surrendering an incredibly poor 3.39 goals per game. Taylor Hall leads the team with eight goals – five Ducks have that many on the season and Jordan Eberle leads the club with 18 points in 27 games – he would rank sixth in that department if he played for the Ducks.
Eberle has nine points in the last 10 meetings with Anaheim and David Perron has three goals and two assists during a five game points streak but that’s about where the good news stops – pretty sad.

Edmonton G Viktor Fasth is expected to start against the Ducks – his former team. Fasth has gone 2-6-2 this year with a 3.23 GAA and .891 save percentage. Statistically, Fasth has been the better goaltender for the Oilers this year – amazing!
The Anaheim Ducks have been playing well – four straight wins ahead of this weekend but the loss of Perry will certainly hurt.
That said the Ducks are one of the most complete teams in the NHL – capable of more-than making up for such a huge loss. The team is scoring 2.79 goals per game and is allowing 2.62.
There isn’t many holes on this team – they are tops in the NHL standings for a reason!
Ryan Getzlaf has 10 points in five games, Ryan Kesler has been good and even players like Matt Beleskey have been terrific in the offensive zone (13 goals on the year and 6 in his last 10). Devante Smith-Pelly, who has 11 points, is expected to take Perry’s place for the foreseeable future – he is a solid addition to the top line and will do his part to keep Getzlaf hot.

Despite the curious signing of Ilya Bryzgalov, Frederik Andersen is expected to get he start between the pipes Wednesday – he is 14-4-4- on the year with a 2.52 GAA and .911 save percentage.
