The Sharks sit in seventh in the West, two points up on ninth place LA, making Wednesday night’s game paramount for both teams. Each team has defeated the other in the first two matchups this year and need a win here to stop the pre-All-Star bleeding.

The Los Angeles Kings will be happy to hit the road after a disappointing 1-2-4 homestand ended with a 2-1 OT loss to the Flames on Monday night. The team has been struggling to score and failing to end games in the extra session. It has cost them valuable points in the standings. LA is just 2-12 in games decide in overtime or the shootout – by far the worst mark in the NHL.

That said the Kings haven’t been getting it done in regulation either – they have won just two of 10 games. Tanner Pearson is out, Tyler Toffoli is sick and Slava Voynov is suspended indefinitely. The Kings just don’t look the same and look to be in a bit of trouble as we enter the second half of the season.

To know how much the Kings are struggling look no further than Jonathan Quick’s numbers. He is still winless in 2015 – 0-2-3. He is 0-0-2 in his last two starts with a very good 1.86 GAA and .926 save percentage. He did start 2015 with three straight losses with a 4.29 GAA and .847 save percentage in those games but has been better despite getting zero offense.

It wasn’t that long ago that SAP Center was one of the hardest buildings in the NHL to play – but that trend has quickly evaporated as the Sharks have been especially vulnerable in their own back yard this year. This team lost seven games in regulation on home ice all of last year but are just 11-8-3 this year and are currently mired in a 1-4-1 slump.

One of their recent losses came to the New Jersey Devils who have been one of the bottom third teams in the NHL all season long – they lost 5-2! To make matters worse the Sharks lost Tommy Wingels and defenseman Justin Braun for the foreseeable future in that game.

The Sharks have been just average offensively this year – they are scoring 2.66 goals per game – they problem is that they have allowed an average of 2.68. Nobody is particularly hot offensively for San Jose and neither goalkeeper is particularly trustworthy at the moment.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 11-5-2 in LA last 18 overall.
• Under is 5-2-1 in SJ last 8 Wed. games.
• SJ are 57-27 in their last 84 home games.
• LA are 16-36 in the last 52 meetings in San Jose.
• Home team is 35-17 in the last 52 meetings.

The Sharks have been struggling at home – it’s true. But they get a crack at an LA team that just can’t seem to get going in either end of the rink right now.

I don’t love the Sharks but I do think they take advantage of a down Kings team on Wednesday.

San Jose Sharks -130

The Kings are 5-8-6 on the road this year – not that great.
