The upstart Jets are one of only a few teams that have had the Blackhawks’ number this season. These teams will square off for the third time in the 2014-15 campaign with the Jets holding a 2-0 advantage in the season series.

The Blackhawks remain one of the powerhouses of the Western Conference and the Jets have played themselves into a playoff spot for the time being.

Jets

This Jets team has been a big surprise to many this season. In a lot of rights they’re much like the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys; everyone figured the Jets would be able to create offense with the likes of Evander Kane, Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little, Andrew Ladd and Mark Scheiffele, but stopping the puck was a big question mark.

Much like the Cowboys the Jets have proved doubters wrong with some solid defensive play and a goaltending tandem that has far exceeded expectation. The platoon approach in net for the Jets has proved a success thus far as Ondrej Pavelec has been solid as the 1A thanks to a lightened workload, and Michael Hutchinson as the 1B has been stellar. Hutchinson has a brilliant .931 SV% and 2.00 GAA while Pavelec has posted a 2.46 GAA and .913 SV%.

Confidence in their netminders has allowed this team to open up and play their game without worry that they’ll be giving up bad goals and playing from behind and that confidence has translated into a winning record and the possibility of Winnipeg’s first playoff appearance in franchise history.

Blackhawks

By most team’s standard the Blackhawks are having a great season. By their own standards though, I’m sure the Hawks would like to be better. A rejuvenated Nashville team, coupled with Chicago’s inability to find a big win streak has Chicago sitting in a tie for second in the Central Division with St. Louis.

This month has really been a microcosm of what Chicago has been doing for much of the season and that’s play a good game or two then take a step back. In the six games that the Hawks have played in 2015, just one has been against a team in a playoff position and that was the Washington Capitals in the Winter Classic, a game they lost in the dying seconds, failing to register a point. They’re 3-3 in the new year with losses to Colorado and an embarrassing showing in a 5-2 loss to the lowly Oilers.

Winnipeg is currently a playoff team and the Hawks will need to bring their A game tonight if they’re going to come away with two points. Corey Crawford looks like he’ll get the start tonight and he was very strong his last time out (though I still have wavering confidence in him).

Crawford turned aside 36 of 37 shots in a 4-1 win over the Wild, but then again the Wild had been struggling to find offense.

Jets vs. Blackhawks 4* Free Pick

The Jets have a 2-0 series lead on the Blackhawks and winning three straight against this team is a very tall task, especially with tonight’s game being played in Chicago where the Blackhawks are 15-5-1. Winnipeg played a tight 2-1 game against Dallas on Thursday and tonight is their third game in four nights.

Chicago should be more than well rested as their last game was all the way back on Sunday. This just feels like a game where the schedule catches up with the Jets and a Chicago team out for revenge is going to take it to them.

Go with the Blackhawks.
