The Flames have fallen out of a Western Conference playoff spot thanks to three straight losses after dropping a 1-0 decision at the Rangers on Tuesday night while the Devils have quietly won four straight games and have gone 11-2-3 in their last 16 games on home ice.

The Calgary Flames lost a tough game on the road Tuesday night and face the prospect of the next six games away from the Saddledome. The team simply didn’t bring the offense to Tuesday night’s game and if it wasn’t for goaltender Kari Ramo the score would have looked a whole lot worse than 1-0.

Having gone 0-2-1 in their last three games, Wednesday night’s game is close to a must-win for a team battling to staying the playoff race.

The Flames are still top third in the NHL in goal scoring – 2.8 goals per game but a few key contributors have gone cold. Juri Hudler had five goals and two assists in a seven-game scoring streak before going pointless in his last two.

Hudler has one goal and six assists in a five-game point streak against the Devils. Curtis Glencross has just one assist in 12 games, Johnny Gaudreau hasn’t scored in 12, Joe Colbourne has one point in eight games and David Jones is pointless in his last three.

Calgary has picked a poor time to go into a slump offensively and now face a Devils team that has been very stingy defensively as of late.

Jonas Hiller figures to get he start in goal after Kari Ramo started Tuesday. Hiller has struggled – 0-1-1 with a 3.97 GAA and .879 save percentage in his last two starts. Hiller hasn’t faced the Devils since a 3-2 overtime win for Anaheim on Dec. 20, 2013, and is 2-2-2 with a 2.29 GAA in six career meetings.

The New Jersey Devils find themselves eight points out of a playoff spot and they get a crack at the team they are chasing in the game after tonight. The Devils can thank one man for their recent surge – goaltender Corey Schneider. Schneider has allowed a combined four goals while winning four straight contests including a 38 save, 3-0 shutout of Arizona Monday.

He is 3-1-0 with a 1.48 goals-against average in the last four meetings with Calgary.

Despite all of the trade talk surrounding this team, some key players have stepped up offensively.

Mike Cammalleri had his second two-goal game in his last three games played against the Coyotes – he has five points in three games, Adam Larsson also has five points in three games, Jordin Tootoo has three points in three games and Adam Henrique has three points in his last four games.

Some help from some other veterans would help – Jaromir Jagr is pointless in seven games and Dainius Zubrus hasn’t hit the score sheet in 10 games.

NHL Gambling Trends

• CAL are 6-2 in their last 8 road games.
• Under is 8-3 in CAL last 11 vs. Metropolitan.
• Under is 14-6-1 in CAL last 21 Wed. games.
• Under is 19-4-5 in NJ last 28 home games.
• Over is 7-3 in NJ last 10 Wed. games.
• Under is 32-14-5 in NJ last 51 overall.
• Under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

The New Jersey Devils are rolling and with Corey Schneider playing the way he is, it is hard to bet against them, especially since they have gone 10-1-2 in their last 13 contests at Prudential Center. Calgary’s depth hasn’t been much of a factor lately, some of their stars are in slumps and Jonas Hiller is in the midst of his worst stretch of the season.
