The Leafs have made everyone forget about their profound struggles a few weeks ago, but they’ll be in tough to keep it going against Anaheim.

Perhaps the only other club that would give Toronto a run for “hottest team” moniker is the Ducks themselves. Anaheim is riding its second seven-game win streak of the season, as the Ducks pad their league-leading 47 points.

The Leafs have won four straight and eight of their last nine on home ice.

An intriguing development about the home team is, apart from good production on the power play, the Leafs’ most talented scorers are not carrying the load. They are getting incredible effort and production from the role players; whether or not that is sustainable, it must be pleasant for head coach Randy Carlyle to see in the present.

Mike Santorelli, Nazem Kadri, Daniel Winnik and Richard Panik are tearing it up for the Blue and White, while the team is usually goosed if sniper Phil Kessel isn’t scoring at even strength.

The team’s bell-cows: Kessel, James van Reimsdyk and Joffrey Lupul, are still amassing points with the man-advantage, but the all-around scoring hasn’t mattered when the character guys are lighting the lamp.

The Leafs have also enjoyed great goaltending of late.

Starter 1-A Jonathan Bernier is showing how much talent he really has, while jilted back-up James Reimer has also put on some masterful performances recently.

Toronto has been getting peppered as usual – a worrying trend for any club in the long term – but when Toronto’s goalies are strong, the team scores enough to be a factor in the Eastern Conference.

There’s a similar narrative for the visitors, except all the good backstopping has been done by Frederik Andersen. The Dane has a 17-4 record and a 2.38 GAA.

NHL Betting Trends

* CHI are 13-3 in their last 16 overall.
* Under is 4-1-3 in CHI last 8 overall.
* CHI are 7-2 in their last 9 vs. Atlantic.
* Under is 8-2-1 in BOS last 11 vs. Central.
* BOS are 40-15 in their last 55 home games.

The Ducks are also pouring in almost four goals per game. Ryan Getzlaf, for my money, is the best power forward in the NHL – he leads the team with 33 points.

Ryan Kesler, Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey have also been studs.

Anaheim 4, Toronto 1

The Leafs have been remarkable at the ACC lately, but the Ducks are an elite all-around team, and the gravy train has to stop at some point.

4* Free NHL Play: Take the UNDER

I think Anaheim’s well-roundedness will give the home team fits on Tuesday night  – expect the Ducks to continue their torrid pace en route to being a playoff menace.
