Edmonton will be out to record their first win of the season against a Western Conference foe but will be in tough against a Vancouver team that has beaten them three times already this year.

The Vancouver Canucks should be a rested bunch – they play their first game since Friday – a 5-0 home loss to the Arizona Coyotes – the same team that beat the Oilers 2-1 on Sunday.

The Canucks have been playing solid hockey all season long and will be looking for a strong bounce back after an uncharacteristically poor outing last time out.

The Canucks have fallen victim to some questionable goaltending as of late – Ryan Miller who had been so solid to start the season has hit a bit of a slump allowing 12 goals in his last three starts – five in 23 shots Friday night.

The Oilers have been Miller’s medicine however, no matter what has ailed him in his career – he is 10-0 versus the Oilers in his career with a lifetime 1.79 GAA and is 3-0-0 this year with a terrific 1.95 GAA and .929 save percentage over that span. He has a 1.40 GAA in five career starts in Edmonton.

Offensively the Canucks have been OK and have been getting terrific play from the twins who were seen to have been on the downside of their careers.

The twins have combined for 33 points this season while new line mate Radim Vrbata has six goals and seven assists on the year.

The Canucks have also benefitted for some much needed secondary scoring – newly acquired Nick Bonino has been terrific and has seven goals and seven assists in 18 games, Chris Higgins has 11 points and even Alex Burrows has quadrupled his goal output from last season with 4!

Vancouver is a deeper team than they have been in years – a handful for most of their opposition on any given night.

The Edmonton Oilers have been typically dreadful – they are 2-6-1 in their last nine games and they have scored just seven total goals in their last four home games.

They ride a three game losing streak and a string of four straight losses on home ice into Wednesday night’s game.

The Oilers haven’t scored more than three goals in their last 10 overall and are averaging 2.44 goals per game this year.

At least Taylor Hall is back – he missed six games and made an immediate impact in his first game back from injury scoring Edmonton’s only goal against Arizona. Despite missing six games his seven goals are two more than any other Oiler right now.

The Edmonton defense hasn’t been much better – the Oilers allow 3.28 goals per game and neither goaltender has a save percentage above .900 – not good.

Expect Ben Scrivens to get the start Wednesday – he is 0-2-0 against Vancouver this season but has a respectable 2.05 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in his starts.

The Oilers can’t win at home, they can’t win on the road and they simply can’t beat the Canucks.

Vancouver Canucks -136

Vancouver’s overall record has benefitted from playing Edmonton three times this year – expect the fortunes to continue.
