Free Pick: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins NHL Betting Lines and Preview

Some surprising news from the Bruins on Tuesday, as the team placed top-line center David Krejci on injured reserve. Krejci suffered an undisclosed injury in the second period of Saturday’s preseason finale against the Detroit Red Wings.

He will be required to miss at least seven days, which would make him eligible to return on Saturday.

The Bruins are coming off a year in which they won the Presidents’ Trophy, and are only one season removed from making the Stanley Cup Final. Even still, the team isn’t satisfied after getting ousted from the playoffs in the second round a year ago.

As for the Flyers, they’re just hoping to get back into the conversation among the Eastern Conference’s elite squads. Getting off on the right foot Wednesday night and knocking off the defending conference champions would be a major step in the right direction.

The Bruins earned some major hardware in the 2013-14 season, as goaltender Tuukka Rask won the Vezina Trophy, and center Patrice Bergeron took home the Selke Trophy, those in addition to winning the Presidents’ Trophy.

The Flyers’ last trip to the Stanley Cup Final was in 2010. The team started last season 3-9-0, but fought back and managed to make the playoffs, though they fell to the New York Rangers in seven games in the opening round.

The Bruins lost some of their veteran presence in the offseason. Winger Jarome Iginla made the move to Colorado as a free agent. The team also dealt defenseman Johnny Boychuk to the New York Islanders for draft picks on Saturday. Even still, the team has plenty of skill, and has a slew of horses that should be able to fill the void left by Boychuk on the blue line.

The Bruins have dominated this series in recent years, and given the Flyers’ penchant for slow starts, things should be no different on Wednesday.

Additionally, goaltenders usually take a while to get going in the early part of the year, so don’t be surprised if there are some goals in this one.

NHL Gambling Trends

The Bruins are 13-3 in the last 16 meetings between these teams, and 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Boston.

The over is 23-6-3 in the Flyers’ last 32 road games, and it is 11-2-4 in the Bruins’ last 17 games versus Metropolitan Division opponents.
