Boston has lost two straight games ahead of Friday night’s clash and will have to deal with a Canucks team brimming with confidence after a 5-4 win Wednesday night in Chicago. Vancouver has won two of the three meetings between the clubs since losing in seven games in the Cup Final in 2011 but the Bruins took the last game 3-1 a year ago.

The Boston Bruins looked destined to be one of the most disappointing teams in the NHL this year before an 8-2 stretch vaulted them back into the playoff picture. Since that time however Boston has gone 1-3-1 and has scored just eight goals over that span.

Hopes are that the road will be the cure to their present ails – they are 4-1-1 in their last six games away from TD Garden.

The Bruins continue to be a middle-of-the-pack offensive team. They are averaging 2.59 goals per games but have sunk to 2.00 goals in their last four games overall.

A number of big names are struggling for Boston – Brad Marchand and Torey Krug each have just one pint in their last four games, Reilly Smith is pointless in three games and Zdeno Chara hasn’t hit the score sheet in four games. Not a whole lot is going right for Boston offensively – it will likely be up to the defense and goaltending to rise to the occasion Friday.

Tuukka Rask should get the start between the pipes after Niklas Svedberg got the nod Wednesday. Rask’s numbers are OK – a 1.53 GAA and .957 save percentage in his last three games played but he is just 1-2-0 over that span. Simply put, he hasn’t been getting the offensive support lately. He’s 4-1-2 with a 1.67 GAA in seven road starts in 2015.

When the Vancouver Canucks are going right they are a balanced team – getting contributions from everyone on the team. That’s precisely what is happening now. In their last three games, they shut out the Penguins 5-0, they scored three goals in defeat against Minnesota and they scored five goals against Chicago in their 5-4 OT win Wednesday night.

Daniel Sedin scored two goals Wednesday and now has four to go with three assists over the last seven games, brother Henrik has eight assists during that stretch and the supporting cast has been getting it done as well. Zack Kassian has scored in three straight games, Chris Higgins has three points in two games, Radim Vrbata has four points in three games, Alex Burrows has three points in three games and even Ronalds Kenins – ya Ronalds Kenins has three points in four games.

Vancouver is a picture of confidence right now – the balance that defined this team earlier this year has returned making them a dangerous squad.

The only real question mark is Ryan Miller ahead of Friday’s game. He has allowed 13 goals with a .877 save percentage in his past four starts and he’s allowed five goals in two of his last three with a 31-save shutout against Pittsburgh in between.

On the bright side, Miller went 26-9-7 with a 2.56 GAA against the Bruins while with Buffalo.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Under is 7-2-1 in BOS last 10 overall.
• BOS are 10-3 in their last 13 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 5-2-1 in BOS last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 9-4 in VAN last 13 Fri. games.
• Home team is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

The Boston Bruins are a pretty hard team to trust right now while the Canucks seem to be emerging from a mid-season slump. Confidence is a funny thing – Vancouver has it while the Bruins don’t.
