Both teams enter Friday night`s clash struggling – the Blues have gone 1-4-1 in their last six games and the Ducks have lost four of seven since a seven-game win streak and are coming off Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to San Jose.

The Ducks have owned St. Louis in their own building – they have won eight straight against the Blues at Honda Center and have won five of their last six overall on home ice.

The St. Louis Blues had been struggling defensively before a 3-0 win against Colorado on Monday night – the team had lost four straight goals while allowing 18 goals over that span.

The good news is that goaltender Brian Elliot finally returned from an injury that kept him out since November 25 – the bad news is that St. Louis now has three keepers on the roster and may be forced to release 42 year old legend Martin Brodeur.

Elliot played well in a 3-2 loss to Nashville Tuesday night but may not get the start Friday – he is 0-5-2 with a 3.38 goals-against average in his last seven starts against Anaheim, Jake Allen may get the start – he has won both his starts against the Ducks in his career or it may be Martin Brodeur who is 4-0-0 with a 1.70 GAA in his last four meetings with Anaheim.

Interesting indeed!

No matter who is between the pipes, they are going to have to be better than their recent showings overall – the Ducks are a force and will be looking to avenge only their fourth regulation loss on home ice this year.

Offensively the Blues have struggled as well – surprising considering the talent on this team. Overall they are averaging 2.64 goals per game but there aren`t as ton of players on the Hot List.

TJ Oshie has three points in three games and Chris Butler has two points in two games – the Tarasenkos, the Steens and the Backes` of the world haven`t been doing much.

The biggest news for the Anaheim Ducks is the return of Corey Perry from injury. He missed 10 games with a knee sprain and has also been forced to sit five games earlier in the season with the mumps – and he`s still second on the team in scoring!

Perry will be a welcome addition to a power play that is 0 for its last 21 and an offense that has a number of players in slumps.

Cam Fowler has two points in eight games, Patrick Maroon and Matt Beleskey are each pointless in their last three games, Hampus Lindholm is pointless in four games, Sami Vatanen hasn`t recorded a point in six games and Andrew Cogliano and Jakob Silfverberg have each failed to hit the score sheet in their last seven games.

Some good news comes in the form of Friday`s probable starting goaltender – Frederik Andersen.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He has won five straight home games, is 3-1-1 with a 1.36 GAA and .944 save percentage in his last five games overall and is 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA lifetime against St. Louis.

Anaheim has absolutely owned the Blues at the Duck Pond – no reason to think differently about Friday`s match.
