Blackhawks goaltender Antii Raanta put together a stellar performance for an injured Corey Crawford in Chicago’s last game, recording his second consecutive shutout. He figures to get the nod again on Thursday against the Predators.

He’ll get more notice than he did the last time, as he was told Tuesday morning he would make his first appearance that night against Philadelphia because of an upper-body injury for Crawford. Raanta stopped each of the 32 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory. Patrick Kane scored twice on the power play to help facilitate the win.

Raanta went 8-1-2 with a 2.27 GAA in 11 appearances in relief of Crawford last season after the Blackhawks’ starting netminder suffered a groin injury Dec. 8. Included in that stretch was a 3-1 win over these very Predators in which Raanta stopped 27 shots.

The Blackhawks went on to lose the next three games in the series, but beat the Predators on Saturday by a score of 2-1 in overtime. Captain Jonathan Toews scored the winning goal while short-handed in a game in which Crawford made 19 saves. The Blackhawks outshot the Predators 37-20 in that one, which came on the second night of a back-to-back for Nashville.

As for the Predators, they are the only Western Conference team other than the Blackhawks without a regulation loss. In their last game, they defeated the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 in a shootout behind a solid performance by defenseman Ryan Ellis, who scored the winner in the shootout after recording a career-high three points with a goal and two assists.

Free Pick: Nashville Predators vs. Chicago Blackhawks NHL Betting Lines and Preview

The Predators have actually fared quite well in this series, and with the advantage of getting this game at home, it’s really only a matter of name-brand value that explains the Blackhawks coming to town as the favorites.

Additionally, this game doesn’t figure to feature a lot of goals, as both sides do a fine job of defending their own end, bad both goaltenders have been standing tall for their respective sides.

With both teams jockeying for positioning in the standings already, this one figures to have a playoff-like feel to it. The under has cashed in four of the last five times these teams have met.
