Tuesday night’s NHL schedule is highlighted by a game between the ninth place Calgary Flames and the eighth place Detroit Red Wings in a battle for the a playoff position and also for a little pride.

The Calgary Flames were broken earlier on this season. They were not playing nearly to their capabilities. So what does management do – it brings in six new starters in the matters of a couple of weeks. Calgary blew up its lineup. Three of the Flames top seven scorers are recent acquisitions. There is no excuse in Calgary now – management has done its best to plug the holes and to bring in quality guys to help their team.

Calgary has been awful in their last 20 games, going a pitiful 6-14 over that span. They have been terrible on the road and not that great at home – the team has been a mess. However, things appear to be turning around a little bit lately.

Convincing wins over New Jersey and Minnesota have the Flames looking more confident and more poised going into Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Jarome Iginla is scoring once again and with his hat trick on Sunday, he looks to be out of his month long slump. However, Calgary has to start beating teams ahead of them in the standings. They sit in ninth place in the West and failure will not be tolerated in Flamesland.Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Detroit Red Wings have finally reached eighth place in the Western Conference after hovering below for what seemed like forever. They can thank one thing for their recent return to prominence and that is health. Most of the big names on the Red Wings roster have spent at least a part of their season injured and it has taken til now for the Wings to finally field their full “A Team” roster.

The Red Wings have gone 3-1 since the Olympic break and have beaten some good teams along the way. Colorado, Nashville and most recently Chicago on Sunday afternoon have all fallen to the healthy Wings in the past week. Tuesday’s game will be the first of three straight on home ice and the Wings will be looking to thrill their Hockeytown crowd while at the same time putting a bit of breathing room between themselves and the Flames.

Tuesday night’s game represents a two points that both teams need badly. It is worth noting that Calgary has only won twice in the last 10 visits to Joe Louis Arena and that the home team has a 14-6 advantage in their last 20 meetings. The Wings are back and will extinguish the Flames on Tuesday night.
