2010 NHL Power Rankings – (Mar. 29th)

Take a look at CappersPicks.com’s March 29th edition of the NHL Power Rankings to see which teams reigned supreme in the NHL in the past 7 days…

NHL Power Ratings – March 29

Two weeks to go in the regular season and the cream is rising to the top. The good teams that were struggling last week seem to have righted the ship while the poor teams continue to struggle. There is some changes near the top as the elite flip flop positions as they have all season.

So here we go with this week’s NHL Power Rankings.

Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment and let me know what you think. (Last week’s rank in parenthesis)

1. Capitals – 49-15-11 (1 week ago: 1). 1-1-1 this week but any team that has a shot at 120 points is my top team – easily!

2. Coyotes – 47-23-6 (2). 8-1-1 in their last 10 games – second Western Conference team to reach 100 points. Gotta love the Coyotes

3. Sharks – 46-19-10 (8). 3 straight wins this week against pretty good teams – that’s more like it. The panic is over and the Sharks are where they are supposed to be.

4. Penguins – 44-25-7 (4). They have been playing well without Malkin. Fleury hasn’t been all that great either. Imagine when they get Malkin back and Fleury gives his head a shake.

5. Predators – 43-27-6 (6). 7-0-1 in their last 9 games. The Preds keep defying the odds and are playing very well.

6. Red Wings – 39-23-13 (13). Might not be ahead of the teams behind them in the Power Rankings but they are the definition of Power right now.

7. Canucks – 45-26-4 (5). Stumbling a bit but still hanging tight and running away with the Northwest Division. Daniel Sedin still leads the NHL in points.

8. Blackhawks – 46-20-7 (3). Back to back losses to Columbus = Big slide but their 99 points speak volumes.

9. Devils – 44-25-5 (9). Flexing some muscle at the right time. Martin Brodeur is back to his old self and Kovalchuk looks amazing.

10. Sabres – 41-23-10 (7). With Ryan Miller and the League’s #9 offense, Buffalo is a scary team right now. They could surprise in the playoffs.

11. Canadiens – 37-31-8 (10). Mike Cammalleri and Marc-Andre Bergeron have returned. Jaroslav Halak looks like the real deal and the Canadiens appear poised to make some noise down the stretch.

12. Kings – 42-26-6 (11). 2 straight losses. I am being generous by having them at #12.

13.Avalanche – 41-26-7 (12). Stumbling a little too but still a legitimate Western Conference playoff team. Good mix of youth and veteran leadership.

14. Senators – 41-30-5 (22). 4 straight wins have the Sens back in the mix once again. They are scoring again and Brian Elliot has regained his form.

15. Bruins – 34-28-12 (16). 3-1 this week has the Bruins fans breathing a little easier. They are still the 30th ranked offense in the NHL yet somehow look like a playoff team.

16. Flames – 38-29-9 (14).
17. Blues- 36-30-9 (18)
18. Flyers – 37-32-6 (15).
19. Wild – 36-33-6 (19)
20. Ducks – 35-31-8 (17)
21.Thrashers – 33-30-12 (20)
22.Rangers – 33-32-10 (23)
23.Stars – 33-28-14 (24)
24.Blue Jackets – 30-32-13 (26)
25.Islanders – 31-34-10 (28)
26.Maple Leafs – 28-35-13 (27)
27.Hurricanes – 31-35-9 (21)
28.Panthers – 30-33-11 (25)
29.Lightning – 30-33-12 (29)
30.Oilers – 24-44-7 (30)
