NHL Power Rankings – March 15
Week 21 is over in the NHL’s regular season and there has been some movement at the top of the Power Rankings. Most teams had so-so weeks leaving the teams that had good weeks to jump in this week’s rankings.
With more and more to play for in the coming weeks, these rankings are going to change like John Mayer’s Speed Dial!
So here we go with this week’s NHL Power Rankings.

1. Capitals – 46-14-89(3 weeks ago: 1). Had a bit of a bumpy road this week, but rebounded with a strong road win at Chicago. They still won their share this week despite playing poorly – a sign of a great team
2. Canucks – 43-23-3 (6). Back at home after an 8-5-1 road trip. They have won both games since arriving at home and suddenly have the fourth best record in the NHL.
3. Coyotes – 42-22-5 (5). Five straight wins this week have them vault up the rankings. When will this team cool off?
4. Blackhawks – 44-18-6 (4). 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. A heartbreaking loss to Washington on Sunday doesn’t sway my opinion of this team.
5. Penguins – 41-23-5 (3). 1 regulation loss and one in overtime have the Pens slipping a bit this week. They are still 6-1-3 in their last 10 and looking like the Cup Champs that they are.
6. Sharks – 43-15-10 (2). Only played 2 games this week so they couldn’t make much of a move. The Sharks are only 5-4-1 in their last 10. They will be Top 5 by next week.
7. Avalanche – 39-23-6 (8). 2-1 this week and the team keeps on winning. Youngsters Chris Stewart and Matt Duchene are a great compliment to Milan Hejduk and Darcy Tucker.
8. Kings – 40-23-5 (7). Struggled a bit this week bust still have a great overall record.
9. Sabres – 36-21-10 (9). So-so week but showed signs of life toward the end of the week. Ryan Miller makes them Top 10 easily.
10. Flames – 34-25-9 (13). – Won 4 straight games before their Sunday loss to the Canucks. They played well in that game too. This week is huge for the Flames – we’ll see where they are next week.
11. Devils – 40-24-3 (12). Until Martin Brodeur breaks his leg, the Devils will be strong. Ilya Kovalchuk finally seems at home right now too – scary.
12. Canadiens – 35-29-6 (19). – 5 straight wins and playing some great hockey. Mike Cammalleri might be back this week making the team even stronger.
13. Flyers – 36-28-4 (10). Played 5 games this week. Things don’t get a whole lot easier – they play 4 games this week. Still, the Flyers have some of the best young talent in the NHL.<
14. Predators – 38-26-5 (11). 3-2 week with losses to San Jose and Vancouver – no shame in that. The Preds do the most with the least in the NHL.
15. Red Wings – 33-23-12 (15). Up and down week for the Wings. Monday’s game at Calgary is huge and could set the tone for the rest of the Wings’ season.
16. Senators – 37-27-5 (14)
17. Blues- 32-27-9 (22)
18. Wild – 33-29-6 (21)
19. Bruins – 30-25-12 (18)
20. Rangers – 31-29-8 (24)
21. Stars – 29-26-13 (16).
22. Ducks – 31-29-8 (17)
23. Hurricanes – 28-32-8 (23)
24. Thrashers – 28-29-11 (20)
25. Panthers – 28-29-10 (25)
26. Lightning – 28-28-12 (26)
27. Islanders – 28-32-9 (28)
28. Blue Jackets – 27-31-11 (27)
29. Maple Leafs – 23-34-12 (29)
30. Oilers – 21-40-7 (30)
