The dominant Washington Capitals have won 10 straight games, riding not just Alex Ovechkin’s hot play but also that of Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Semin, Mike Green and even Jose Theodore in goal. The Bruins have lost seven straight. Gulp. Is a massacre in store for Beantown tonight?
There’s nothing to suggest the Caps will slow down anytime soon. Somehow, Alex Ovechkin has “quietly” staked out his highest-ever point-per-game pace; he tallies more points at home but he has more road goals, notching 18 in 24 games. 
He scored a pair in his only other battle with Boston this season – a 4-1 road victory.
As much as Toronto Maple Leaf fans scrutinize Brian Burke for trading away two first-round picks, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is taking heat for trading away Phil Kessel. It’s usually not a good thing for a first-place team (which the Bruins were) to deal its leading goal scorer (which Kessel) was for futures when the team is on the cusp of contention. Now, the Bruins simply can’t score. In fact, they’re the lowest-scoring team in hockey this season after tallying the third most goals last season. I just don’t see them scoring enough to keep pace with Washington tonight.
