The Vancouver Canucks roll into Denver for the twelfth game on their epic fourteen game road trip on Tuesday for a Northwest Division battle with the second place Colorado Avalanche. Both teams are 6-4 in their last 10 games and are both coming off of wins in their last game.

Vancouver has been up and down during the post-Olympic break and who can blame them? They have not had a home game since late January and they have been playing some quality opponents in the last week. Tuesday’s game is arguably the most important game for the Canucks since the Olympic break as the pesky Avalanche are hanging around and currently sit only two points back of Vancouver for the Northwest Division lead.

The Canucks have been relying on the usual suspects for offense during their road trip. The Sedin twins, Alex Burroughs and Ryan Kesler have been excellent, allowing the Vancouver to hold off the Avs for the better part of six weeks. The Canucks are starting to see a little bit of secondary scoring as well – something that is going to have to ramp up if the Canucks want to go far into the playoffs. Pavol Demitra appears to be over his injury and Mikael Samuelsson has started to emerge as a real threat every time that he is on the ice.

On defense, the Canucks are close to getting Kevin Bieksa back in the lineup and Willie Mitchell is still a ways away from returning to the lineup. Although the Canucks have been forced to utilize a “B-rated” defense corp., they have been doing just fin and although Roberto Luongo has struggled at times, it is only a matter of time before he finds his “A Game” again.

The Vancouver Canucks will try to weather another storm on Tuesday night in a huge game in the Northwest division. They will return home soon and know if they can have a lead in the standings over the Avs, they will be in good shape for the stretch run. Look for a solid effort on Tuesday night in a highly contested game that the Canucks should win. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Colorado Avalanche have had Tuesday’s game circled on their calendar for a month now, and they know that a win would put them into a tie with the Canucks in the Northwest Division standings. The Avs made a bold move at the trade deadline, moving their second highest scorer Wojtek Wolski for Peter Meuller who scored in his debut and has also helped an inept power play score four goals in its last two games. Milan Hejduk is back from injury and his return makes the Avalanche a much better team.

Craig Anderson and Peter Budaj have been playing well in the Colorado net, and have been able to avoid the backbreaking “soft goal”. Anderson figures to get the start on Tuesday night and will have a tough time stopping the three scoring lines on the Canucks.

Expect a close game on Tuesday with the Canucks improving on their 13-5 record over their last 18 games. The trends show that this matchup should be a low scoring affair as the Under is 9-4 in the last thirteen meetings in Colorado.

NHL Betting Trends:

Vancouver is 13-5 SU in its last 18 games
Colorado is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Vancouver’s last 5 games
