Monday night’s game between the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals is a matchup of the worst offense in the NHL and the league’s best offense. While the Washington Capitals have little to play for except for momentum, the Boston Bruins are still looking over their shoulders at the three teams that are on their heels for the final playoff positions in the Eastern Conference.

The Boston Bruins tried their best to give away their playoff position in the East, but when there were no takers, they decided to start playing desperate hockey. The Bruins have gone 6-4 in their last ten games including four straight wins on the road.

They will have to keep up their winning ways on the road as Monday is the first of two games that they have in Washington.

Goaltender Tukka Rask has been the story for the Bruins this season, carrying the league’s worst offense to a possible playoff spot. He is 4-2 in his last seven games with a 1.21 goals against average and two shutouts in those games.

It’s a good thing too. The Bruins have only scored a total of five goals in their last five games!  Nobody on the Bruins is hot on offense, so Rask is going to have to be the story yet again if Boston hopes to win this game.

The Washington Capitals have apparently been mired in a slump the last week or so. The 6-1-3 record over their last ten games is not exactly proof of this slump. The Capitals have locked up first place in the Eastern Conference and the President’s Trophy is a mere formality.

Washington has ridden its number one overall offense and their number one power play to the position they are in now. Alex Ovechkin has not been the star however. The Caps have been keeping up their scoring ways via a committee approach. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

Ovechkin isn’t hot and Washington is still winning – scary. Jose Theodore is still on his magical ride and despite being pulled early in a game against Ottawa still hasn’t been defeated in regulation in his last 21 games.

This game should be more competitive than most would think. The Bruins are 10-3-1 in their last 14 road games. That said, Washington still has only lost five games on home ice all season in regulation. The Caps will be looking to silence their late season critics and put the boots to their possible first round playoff opponent.
