The Debut of Michael Crabtree – 49ers vs. Texans
It’s been a long time coming, and the venue couldn’t be any more appropriate. Michael Crabtree, the only holdout remaining from the 2009 NFL Draft, will make his season debut with the Niners in his home state of Texas. It’s a state that Crabtree found a tremendous amount of college success, but is the Niners’ offense a place where he can continue to thrive?

That all depends on how much chemistry Crabtree and Shaun Hill have developed over the past two weeks. Hill has been one of the steadier quarterbacks to lead the Niners in recent memory, and has even been stern enough to pull Vernon Davis’ lifeless body out of the gutter. The Niners average 22.4 points per game, and are coming off a 45-10 shellacking at the hands of the Falcons. They’ve had a bye week to think about it, but now face a Houston team that is this year’s betting flip-flopper.

If you keep track of betting trends, this one’s a keeper: Houston is the only team with a winning record that hasn’t strung a winning streak together. [soliloquy id=”82219″]They win, then lose and so forth. So while the Texans are an even match in the passing game, with Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub, it’s their defense that will ruin them.
The Texans allow 140.0 yards on the ground when defending their home turf, and while all eyes will be focused on Crabtree, it’s the return of Frank Gore that has me excited for the Niners. Coming of a devastating loss to a fellow NFC contender, and a bye week, the Niners have way more to prove in this game. Whether Crabtree gets the job done, or Gore, will not matter. The Niners can’t afford to lose this one, and Houston doesn’t have the defense to keep San Fran off the betting board.

With two weeks to prepare, the 49ers should be ready to get back to their winning ways against the very inconsistent Houston Texans. I like the Niner defense to keep this a low scoring affair.
