Four of the last five meetings have gone UNDER the total

JaMarcus Russell has thrown for 298 yards in the last three games, and it appears this tragic comedy is going to continue to play to observers of our NFL Sportsbook until there is no audience left. Russell is 39.8% accurate this season, with four interceptions and eight sacks. His only touchdown pass of the year was in Week 1. Russell is also just 12 out of 40 with three interceptions when passing on first down, and you know the New York Giants have to be tuned in to something like that. This may be the league’s easiest quarterback to defend against, and it’s not as if coach Tom Cable is going to dip into his bag of tricks and find anything better. When Jeff Garcia was granted his release in camp, that train left the station.

By the way, just a few days ago, Garcia spoke up in the way we were suggesting he was hinting when he was signed with the Philadelphia Eagles – that the Raiders were not an organization devoted to winning games. “It was to a point where I felt like guys who walked through those doors just were there to collect a check and not really interested in putting everything that they had within themselves on to the football field,” Garcia told one radio station.

He said of Russell, “I just feel like it’s an unfortunate situation when the entire work ethic and the entire goal of the team is really put upon one guy’s shoulder who really isn’t maybe ready for that situation or ready to take on that sort of responsibility.”

In other words, these guys are kidding themselves.

We’re kidding ourselves, too, if we think Oakland Raiders can win this game on the money line in the NFL Sportsbook. As for the pointspread, that’s another matter. At this moment Eli Manning is questionable with his bruised heel, and he says, “If I feel like I can go out and play at a high level and help the team and do everything I can do, and they don’t have to limit the game plan or say you can’t do this or that, I’ll go out there and play.” If he can’t play, we can’t really recommend the Giants too strongly with David Carr, another #1 draft choice (like Russell, not Manning) who wasn’t able to develop into a top-flight NFL quarterback.

Somehow we think Carr won’t be needed. Manning and coach Tom Coughlin will likely rely on the Giants running game a little more, and that means grinding it out and keeping the Raider defense on the field after the offense can’t produce.

You must acknowledge that this is a lot of points to lay, considering that the Giants don’t usually cover numbers at home the way they do on the road, and are giving up 5.5 yards a rush in the early going. However, we don’t know how far we could possibly go with a team that has scored 39 points in four games and has incompetent people at the QB position. If Manning goes, we’re laying the points with the Giants, the 16-point favorite in the BetUS NFL betting odds.
