Jets vs. Ravens Week 4 Preview & Pick

It’s time for NFL Week 4 betting. The odds are out and Kyle Hunter weighs in with a free nfl pick and preview for the matchup between the New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens

New York Jets (2-1) vs. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)

Rex Ryan helped create this Baltimore defense, but now he’s looking to help the Jets beat the Ravens. Last year it was the Ravens who came up with a 10-9 win at New York in the season opener. Both teams enter this game at 2-1 on the year, and both of them have high hopes for the season ahead.

The Jets are coming off a disappointing loss at Oakland. The defense simply didn’t play to its usual level. New York has only played up to its potential in one game this year, and that was against the lowly Jaguars. This is a team that always has plenty of confidence, but they could really use a big win over another AFC powerhouse.

Mark Sanchez hasn’t been spectacular this year, but his numbers are dramatically better than they were last season. Sanchez had a 55% completion percentage last year, and this season he is up to 63%. Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress are both talented wide receivers, but they have yet to have a breakout game this year. The biggest concern for the Jets offense has to be the running game. New York had one of the best running games in football last year, but they are 25th in the league so far this season. Both Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson are struggling to find room to run right now. The Jets run defense is ranked 31st out of 32 teams right now, and that has been a big strength in the past couple years. If the Jets are going to be successful, they must improve in the trenches. Baltimore’s offense has started the season much better than it did last year. Ray Rice is averaging a very impressive 5.6 yards per carry, and he continues to be a major force as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Anquan Boldin had a terribly disappointing first year with the Ravens, but he already has 14 catches this season. Joe Flacco is only completing 54% of his passes this year, but he has a stellar 9/2 touchdown to interception ratio. This is an offense with plenty of weapons, and I expect them to continue to be solid.

The Ravens defense may not be quite as dominating as it used to be, but this is still a very good defense. Haloti Ngata is one of the best defensive linemen in the league, and Terrence Cody is doing a great job of clogging up the running lanes as well. Suggs, McClain, and Lewis form an impressive group of linebackers for Baltimore. Ed Reed may have lost a step, but he is still a great play maker at the back of this defense. Baltimore is currently first in the NFL in points allowed at just 13.3 points per contest.

The Jets defense hasn’t been up to par this year, but I think they’ll play much better this weekend. Baltimore’s defense should make life miserable for New York’s offense. I think a defensive battle is quite likely.
