NFL Week Five Wagering Review

Despite posting a respectable 7-5 record with all of my Week 5 NFL selections in the BetUS Locker Room on Sunday, football bettors need to take into consideration several eye-opening facts about a handful of teams heading into Week 6.

Let’s get to some of the more interesting happenings on Sunday!

Alright BetUS NFL faithful, since haste makes waste and Week 6 will be here before we know it, here is my weekly NFL review of all the highs and lows of Week 5.

Dolphins 17 Chargers 10

The Dolphins pulled off arguably the week’s biggest shocker for the second consecutive week by beating the struggling San Diego Chargers, (2-3 SU, 2-2-1 ATS), to move to 2-2 both straight up, (SU) and against the spread, (ATS). The Dolphins should look very attractive with their Week 6 matchup against the beleaguered Houston Texans while the Chargers are going to be in desperation mode against the New England Patriots next week.

Colts 31 Texans 27

While the Colts, (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS) pulled off their own shocker against the Texans, they are clearly not firing on all cylinders and will bear watching against the defensive-minded Baltimore Ravens next week despite playing at home.

Titans 13 Ravens 10

The Titans, (5-0 SU, 5-0 ATS), are succeeding under Kerry Collins just as I predicted when he replaced former starter Vince Young and are off next week, before visiting the lowly Chiefs in a Week 7 matchup they will undoubtedly win with the greatest of ease. Baltimore will need to find a way to put some points up on the board against the Colts in Week 6 despite playing their usual stellar brand of defensive football.

Panthers 34 Chiefs 0

Ho-hum – this game went just as I expected, with the Panthers, (4-1 SU, 3-1-1 ATS), spanking the Chiefs unmercifully. Carolina will get a stiffer test when they hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.

Redskins 23 Eagles 17

The Eagles, (2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS), now look like the team I thought they would be this season despite their impressive start, while the Redskins (4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS) look very, very for real after winning two straight NFC East contests – on the road no less. Both team look like they have winnable Week 6 contests with Philadelphia on the road against San Francisco and Washington hosting the lowly St. Louis Rams.

Giants 44 Seahawks 6

This was one of my lock picks of the Week and the Giants, (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS), didn’t disappoint against the shockingly mediocre Seahawks, (1-3 SU, 1-3 ATS). New York looks like another ‘lock’ against the Browns while the Seahawks will have their hands full at home against the Packers.

Falcons 27 Packers 24

I keep saying the Falcons (3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS) hit two home runs by drafting rookie quarterback Matt Ryan and acquiring running back Michael Turner, and they sure have! The Packers (2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) hit the road to face an uninspiring Seahawks team in Week 6 while the Falcons will host the Chicago Bears.

Bears 34 Lions 7

I hear BetUS is sponsoring a middle school team to face the Lions in an exhibition game – and I want in despite my advanced age since a victory is pretty much guaranteed against the atrocious Lions. All jokes aside, the Bears, (3-2 SU, 3-1-1 ATS), look like they’re finding their way under Kyle Orton while the Lions (0-4 SU, 0-4 ATS) can likely mail in their result on the road next week while visiting the underachieving Minnesota Vikings.

Patriots 30 49ers 21

The Patriots (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS) covered the low spread in this contest, but will visit a desperate Chargers team in Week 6. The Niners look better on offense under Mike Martz, but will host another desperate team in Week 6 when Philadelphia visits the Bay area.

Cowboys 31 Bengals 22

The Cowboys (4-1 SU, 2-3 ATS) won this game but failed to cover the spread while revealing more chinks in their armor for the second straight week despite playing the lowly Bengals (0-5 SU, 2-3 ATS). The Boys could be in a spot of trouble next week against the Cardinals, though the ‘Over’ is looking pretty good already in that Week 6 contest. The Bengals visit the New York Jets, who will be well-rested after a bye this week.

Cardinals 41 Bills 17

I don’t think anyone saw this coming! Arizona, (3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS), kept its postseason hopes alive while the Bills too a big step backwards. The Cardinals host the Dallas Cowboys in a contest that will reveal even more about each team while the Bills (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) have a bye in Week 6.

Broncos 16 Buccaneers 13

The Broncos (4-1 SU, 1-3-1 ATS) played some defense for the first time all season but could be looking at a SU and ATS loss at home against Jacksonville in Week 6. The Buccaneers will also have a tough time at home against the rejuvenated Carolina Panthers.

Steelers 26 Jaguars 21

Pittsburgh (3-1 SU, 1-3 ATS) was impressive in beating the Jaguars and have a Week 6 bye, while Jacksonville (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS) desperately needs to win on the road against Denver.

The top six ATS teams in the league are, Tennessee (5-0 ATS), Washington (4-1 ATS), and Tampa Bay (4-1 ATS) with New York, Baltimore and New Orleans all tied with identical 3-1 ATS records.
