Week 4 NFL Lines: Raiders vs. Texans

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Sunday Football Week 4 NFL clash between the Oakland Raiders and the Houston Texans…

NFL Betting – Careful With Your Suicide Pick; Texans In For A Scare

The Houston Texans appear to be a popular suicide pick this week. After all, what better week to pick the Texans, right?

The Texans, who have been 6-2 at home in each of the last two seasons, are 0-2 so far at Reliant Stadium this year. On top of that, they get a visit from the lousy Raiders this week, who seem to be playing with an eye-patch just like their logo.

But not so fast my friend – this won’t be easy for Houston.

There isn’t much that Oakland is good at but one thing they do well is run the ball. Houston has the run defense to entertain them as the Texans rank dead last in run defense. If Houston isn’t focused, they could really be in for a dog fight.

Raiders Offense vs Texans Defense

The Texans rushing defense is giving up 204.7 yards per game. Yikes.

Thomas Jones ran for 117 yards in Week 1, Chris Johnson ran for 197 yards in Week 2 and Maurice Jones-Drew had 119 yards in Week 3. Those are hideous numbers that don’t even tell the full story.

Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has struggled to pass the ball this year but if all he has to do is hand off, he’s more than capable. We saw the Raiders have lots of success in December last year against teams were weak against the run and that’s the case in this matchup.

Look for Darren McFadden and Michael Bush to combine for at least 150 yards, which means the Raiders can keep the Texans offense on the sidelines.

Texans Offense vs Raiders Defense

The bad news for the Raiders is that their defense isn’t much better. The Houston Texans passing game is working very well right now and they finally got their running game going last week.

Oakland has a tough time pressuring the quarterback, which means Houston’s Matt Schaub should continue his hot streak. He’s thrown for 650 passing yards and seven touchdowns in the last two weeks and going up against Oakland defense should only help his stats.

The Texans offense should be able to score at will in this game but if they are on the sideline for spurts, they might get a little out of sync.

Outlook & Pick
The Raiders are going to be in this football game – at least all signs point to that. The Raiders, of course, have a tendency to find new ways to lose games, so keep that in mind.

But the Raiders do have an underrated ground game and this contest may be similar to their Week 1 outing. Look for them to stymie the Texans in the first half and produce plenty of yards on the ground. But in the end Houston will come back with a key fourth quarter drive and win the game.

There is a lot of pressure on the Texans to win this game and as we know, pressure breaks pipes so don’t be surprised if the loose Raiders are playing with the lead in this game.

Pick: Raiders +9.5

It is hard to know what Texan team is going to show up week in and week out. Matt Schaub has been on fire but it has not translated to wins.

Take Oakland and the points. They may not win, but they should still be able to cover.
