BetUS NFL betting odds: N.Y. JETS -1.5, Total 45

NOTABLE STAT: Arizona averages 3.3 yards per rushing attempt
KEY NFL FOOTBALL BETTING TREND: New York is 2-6-1 ATS in its last nine home games

In the BetUS NFL football betting odds, the Jets are listed as a 1.5-point favorite, with a posted total of 45 points.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup (reflecting numbers going into the 2008 season):

* ARIZ has won four of its last five games SU
* ARIZ has played eight of its last 11 games OVER the total
* ARIZ has covered two of its last six road games
* ARIZ has lost 15 of its last 20 road games SU
* ARIZ has played ten of its last 14 road games OVER the total
* NY has lost 12 of its last 16 games SU
* NY has played six of its last seven games UNDER the total
* NY has covered two of its last nine home games
* NY has lost five of its last seven home games SU
* NY has played six of its last seven home games UNDER the total

The Jets haven’t exhibited much of a home field advantage at the Meadowlands, covering just two of their last nine as the host. But that doesn’t really tell the story here. New York put itself into the wrong situation at the wrong time on Monday night against San Diego, and aside from an early interception return for a touchdown by David Barrett, did very little of consequence until “garbage time” in the second half. It has become clear that Brett Favre is a little uncomfortable in the offense that is in place, and we are starting to remind ourselves that Favre has thrown 20 interceptions or more five time sin his career, and that prior to last year’s magic with the Packers, he tossed 47 picks in the previous two campaigns.

But there is something worth putting in perspective, as Favre continues to acquaint himself with his new team. He is completing 70% of his passes, which would project to the highest percentage of his career. And he’s still accounting for seven yards per attempt. His quarterback rating, at this moment, is his highest since his MVP season of 1995.

Our point is that there is hope. But is hope enough here?

Well, the playbook will probably be opened up a little more for Favre this week, but we think there needs to be more results from Thomas Jones, who could be headed to a 1000-yard season, but that is nothing particularly special in this day and age. But we shouldn’t single him out, as Edgerrin James (4 ypc) hasn’t burned up the league either.

There are edges we can find for Arizona in this game. For one thing, the receiver duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin is quite a bit for the Jets’ secondary (allowing 67% completions) to deal with. Kurt Warner may be aging, but you can’t disparage a lot of what he’s been able to do thus far (64%, 6 TD’s, one INT). Opponents have only converted 35.5% of third downs against the toughened-up Arizona defense. And look at the disparity in the comparative figures in yards per point here – the Cards allow 18 yards for every point they give up, while with the Jets that figure is only 11 ypp.

Travel factors also favor Arizona, believe it or not. The Jets are coming from the West Coast after a Monday night game against San Diego, while the Cardinals, who played Washington last week, stayed on the East Coast to practice and prepare. They’ll be fresh. So are we. We’ll take the point and a half with Arizona, the underdog in the BetUS NFL football betting odds.
