Bears vs. Panthers Betting Preview

The fans at Bank of America Stadium will be treated to a game between the Chicago Bears and the Carolina Panthers when they take their seats on Sunday. We preview this matchup and give you the odds…

Mean Defenses of Old Meet as Bears Meet Panthers

The 2008 regular season couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for both the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers who picked up SU road victories as double-digit underdogs. Now they’ll meet up in this afternoon’s Week 2 NFL betting affair looking to show its detractors that last weeks performances weren’t a fluke.

Chicago struggled mightily throughout its post Super Bowl season a year ago, but took the 2008 season by the horns at Indianapolis by knocking the Colts off by a 29-13 final count in brand new Lucas Oil Stadium. Not many believed the Bears could hang for a full 60 minutes, especially the oddsmakers, who tabbed Chicago 10-point underdogs in the contest.

Chicago not only covered the NFL betting line with ease, but also rewarded brave NFL bettors with a fat $$$-Line payday in its Super Bowl XLI rematch. The combined 42 points just went under the closing ‘total’ of 44.

Most impressive was the effort put forth by silky-smooth rookie RB Matt Forte who rumbled for 123 yards on 23 attempts. He got the Bears on the scoreboard for the first time in ’08 after streaking for a 50-yard TD run right after the Colts took a 3-0 lead.

Chicago’s defense produced points as well tackling Indy RB Joseph Addai in the endzone for a safety, and returning a fumble by WR Marvin Harrison for a score after CB Charles “Peanut” Tillman smacked it out of his grasp. QB Kyle Orton increased his mark to 13-6 as a starter completing 13-of-21 passes for 150 yards, and made head coach Lovie Smith look like a genius by not committing any turnovers.

Carolina partook in another shocker late Sunday afternoon. They hardly seemed phased by the fact that offshore sportsbooks labeled them 10-point road underdogs against the defending AFC West champs. They held a 9-7 lead at the half, and a 19-10 advantage with 10 minutes left in the game.

Most impressive though was the way the team navigated itself down the field for the winning score after San Diego took its first lead of the game with only a couple minutes left. QB Jake Delhomme pump faked the Chargers out of their cleats enough to get the ball to leaping TE Dante Rosario for the go ahead score as time expired. Qualcomm Stadium was silenced, and the Panthers sideline stormed the field victorious.

Delhomme finished the contest completing 23-of-41 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown, while RB DeAngelo Williams ran for 86 yards on 18 carries in the win.

The defense was also fantastic limiting the Chargers to just a 33% success rate on third down, held RB LaDainian Tomlinson under 100 yards without a score, and forced a fumble that was returned for a TD at the end of the third quarter.

The NFL betting trends for this match-up tells us that Chicago is 4-1 ATS its L/5 games, and 5-2 ATS its L/7 away from Soldier Field. They’ve also played to the under in 4 of their L/6 road games. Carolina counters with a 5-1 ATS mark its L/6 games, but they’re a poor 2-8 SU & 3-7 ATS their L/10 at home. The under has been a wise investment for the football wagering public in Panther home games since its cashed six of the L/7 times.

Offshore Oddsmakers opened Carolina up as short 3-point home favorites with the ‘total’ set at 37 for this NFC non-divisional confrontation. BetUS Sportsbook offers all NFL Week 2 betting lines be it spread, total, or $$$-line, so be sure to login to your account and get your NFL wagers down as both these clubs look to build off of last weeks shocking results.
