Week 15 NFL Lines: MNF Giants vs. Redskins

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Monday Night Football Week 15 NFL clash between the N.Y. Giants and the Washington Redskins…

Monday Night Football – Redskins Will Derail Giants

The Washington Redskins may have just hired a new general manager and may be in the process of hiring a new head coach, but they still aren’t playing for next year quite yet.

In the Redskins last five games, they have two wins over the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders, and three losses by a combined seven points (losses to the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints).

What’s even more surprising is that the Redskins have played the last month without star defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, cornerback DeAngelo Hall, running backs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts, tight end Chris Cooley and without many regulars from their offensive line.

Part of their turnaround has been keyed by the play of quarterback Jason Campbell, who has played very well over the last month.

The Redskins will try to continue competitive ways as the New York Giants roll into town desperate for a win.

Giants offense versus Redskins defense

The offense has improved in recent weeks as they’ve scored 30+ points in the last two contests. The problem for New York is that they still aren’t running the ball with any consistency and they are forced to throw a lot more since the defense constantly puts them in a hole.

The Giants haven’t had a 100-yard rusher in their last eight games and considering that is supposed to be their bread and butter, that is a problem.

This week, the Giants will face a decent pass rush and a decent front seven, so really, it should be the same story. If their young receivers play well, they will likely score plenty of points. If not, the Giants won’t win this game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Redskins offense versus Giants defense

The Giants defense has been horrible this year and facing a red-hot Jason Campbell won’t be the solution. The Giants defense loss another member of their secondary this week as Aaron Ross reinjured himself after the team’s practice on Thursday. The Giants defense has taken a lot of hits via free agency, retirement, coaching departures and injuries over the last couple of years and they have diminished quite a bit.

The Redskins have a makeshift offense also with young receivers but they have been playing well under the guidance of Sherman Lewis. Look for more of the same this week against a battered defense.

Outlook & Pick

The Giants have far more to play for in this contest as they need a win for a playoff spot while the Redskins have no playoff hopes whatsoever. Even so, the Giants have lost six of their last eight games and have seemingly forgotten how to win. With a leaky defense and the playoff pressure, look for the Giants to put up another stinker this week in Washington.

Pick: Redskins +1

I really agree with the redskins pick. With Jason Cambell on fire recently I can really see him lighting up this banged up New York secondary. The other thing that the skins really have going for them is the fact that like you said their defense is on fire. Eli has been putting many points up but I can’t see thier offense playing as efficiently as they normally do against a red hot redskins defense. Very well written article and very inciteful. thanks.

The Redskins have played most of the teams they faced this season very tough, especially the rest of the teams in the NFC East losing four division games by a total of 20 points. This one stays close and I’m taking the ‘Skins +3
