Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Saturday Football Week 15 NFL clash between the Dallas Cowboys and the undefeated New Orleans Saints…

Saturday NFL Betting – Cowboys Will Make Saints Earn Their Win

The Dallas Cowboys have begun their annual December collapse and the cure for their ailments is not a road trip to face the lone undefeated team in the NFC. Nonetheless, the Cowboys will try to do what 13 other teams have failed to do: defeat the New Orleans Saints.

Interestingly enough, the Cowboys actually have the right type of offense to beat the Saints – if they come in with the right game plan. The Cowboys have a powerful offensive line and versatile running game that can help them control the clock and keep the Saints offense on the sidelines. But they’ll have to convert more than just one third down, which is what they did last week.

Cowboys offense versus Saints defense

The Cowboys offense has played well in their two December games so far from a yardage perspective but they have some serious execution flaws. Two weeks ago, Nick Folk missed a pair of field goals. Last week, Folk missed another and the Cowboys offense was stuffed on four tries at the goal line. If the Cowboys want to beat the Saints, they have to play better than that.

The Cowboys have a power runner in Marion Barber and a home run threat in Felix Jones. They have to use both to dominate the time of possession.

Considering how welcoming the Saints defense was to Washington and Atlanta over the last two weeks, the Cowboys will have plenty of opportunities. They just have to make sure they take advantage.

Saints offense versus Colts defense

The Saints offense moves the ball on everyone and the Cowboys will be no different. The Saints were a little sluggish over the last couple of weeks but most people have to recognize that those contests were on the road. This one is at home.

The Cowboys don’t have enough quality defensive backs to matchup with all of the Saints receiving weapons, so you can expect the Saints to attack through the air. Also, the Cowboys front seven is decent so they might not find as much success on the ground.

The Saints might catch a break if the Cowboys best defensive player, DeMarcus Ware is out for this game or if he plays less than 100%. He is the team’s best pass rusher. Aside from Ware’s nine sacks, no one on the defense has more than four sacks.

Outlook & Pick

The general perception is that the Cowboys are going to get run off the field but that perception is not the reality. The Cowboys may be mentally frail but this is the perfect environment for them. In the last two weeks they were expected to win.

This week, they are expected to lose, which means there won’t be as much pressure.

Dallas will run the ball well, play with the lead for a while and look good until the fourth quarter. Brees will make one or two extra plays and get the win but the Cowboys will cover.

Pick: Cowboys +7.5
