Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Monday Night Football Week 13 NFL clash between the Baltimore Ravens and the Green Bay Packers…

Monday Night Football Betting – Ravens To Struggle With Another Top-Tier Quarterback

If you take a look at the Baltimore Ravens stats, you wouldn’t think that much has changed from last year’s daunting defense. While they are still the third best scoring defense, there has been a noticeable diminishing.

For example: Last week on Sunday night football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who lost to Oakland this week with starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the lineup, nearly won on the road in Baltimore with third string starter Dennis Dixon.

This is a Ravens defense that has been stifling over the last decade, but now there are some chinks in the armor. They allowed 33 points to Minnesota this year, 26 to San Diego and 24 to Kansas City. They’ve also let the team down in two key losses to Cincinnati.

This week, the Ravens will face another elite quarterback who is leading an elite team. That could be a problem as they fight for playoff positioning.

Ravens offense versus Packers defense

The Ravens offense has been extremely one-dimensional of late: get the ball to running back Ray Rice. While he’s a very underrated player in the league, the Ravens have not supported him enough in many of their contests this year.

The passing game has contributed sporadically and this week, the prospects aren’t great with Charles Woodson looming in the secondary. While the Packers defense has played well in recent weeks, like the Ravens, they aren’t as good as their No. 2 overall ranking might lead you to believe.

The Ravens will score points but in a shootout, they’ll need to find some balance if they want to win on the road.

Packers offense versus Ravens defense

Three quarterbacks ranked in the top five in the NFL this year – Philip Rivers, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning – have shredded the Ravens defense. What will Aaron Rodgers do? [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Ravens defense has given up 1013 passing yards and six passing touchdowns to those three quarterbacks and now they have to face Rodgers, who has played as the aforementioned names.

Sure, the Ravens will gets sacks – everyone sacks Rodgers. But what’s going to happen on the other plays?

The biggest issue for the Ravens this year is that they simply don’t have the shutdown cornerbacks they use to have. Throw in the fact that one of the team’s best pass rushers, Terrell Suggs, is not expected to play and Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are banged up, and the Packers should be able to score regularly.

Outlook & Pick

Both teams need a win to stay in the playoff hunt as the Ravens slipped out of the playoffs thanks to Jacksonville’s win while the Packers are feeling the heat from the New York Giants.

The reality is that the Packers are very hot right now while the Ravens have alternated wins and losses over their last six games. Expect a close game but Rodgers will lead the way in front of the Lambeau faithful.

Pick: Packers -3

Baltimore’s only chance is to get to Aaron Rodgers and keep him from beating them down field with his arm. I’m not sure the Ravens defense has what it takes to shut the Packers down in Green Bay.
