NFL Week 12: Buccaneers vs Falcons Predictions

Divisional bragging rights will be on the line on Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons meet at Georgia Dome. Oddsmakers currently have the Falcons listed as 13-point favorites versus the Buccaneers, while the game’s total is sitting at 46…

NFL Betting Preview – Bucs To Send Falcons Reeling

There’s absolutely nothing going right in Tampa Bay right now, but after they fired their two coordinators and promoted a positions coach to head coach, jettisoned the aging defensive stalwarts that defined their team and gave the role of quarterback to three guys with zero proven track record (Leftwich, Johnson, Freeman), there really wasn’t much hope for them.

Even as a betting upstart, they’re peddling a weak 3-7 ATS record right now. So what’s the deal with the support over Atlanta? Tampa has nothing to lose in this game, and Atlanta stands to lose their shot at a wildcard spot after spiraling out of control with a 1-4 SU record in their past five games.

I usually love a sneaky team like the Bucs when they’re getting double-digit points on the road against an overhyped team. And as I’ve been stating for weeks, Matt Ryan and the Falcons are O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D. Despite a strong 5-2 ATS record in their last 7 games, the Falcons have been getting crushed in the win column. Combine that with a 2-7 ATS record in their last 9 hostings of Tampa, along with a 3-6 SU record against the Bucs, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable backing the Dirty Birds in this one.

I’m not saying that Matt Ryan is garbage, I’m just saying that he doesn’t have the maturity or polish at the NFL level to be great. A landslide pick as last season’s rookie of the year, Ryan had to deal with mounting pressure coming in to his sophomore year. Well, he hasn’t exactly won the people over, and his betting backers are jumping ship quickly. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-9) vs. Atlanta Falcons (5-5)

Sunday, November 29th
Georgia Dome, Atlanta — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Atlanta -12 (46.5)

Tampa is coming off a complete demolishing at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, but you can’t fault the Bucs for that. New Orleans is one of the top-3 teams in the league right now and Tampa is barely treading water. Yet, you have to be somewhat optimistic about Josh Freeman despite a three interception game last week. At times he shows flashes of being a solid player in the NFL, and he’ll have his shots against a weak Atlanta defense which gives up 231.3 yards through the air on average (22nd in the league).

Tampa’s biggest weakness is their bottom feeding rush defense, but Atlanta is down to its third-string back. I know Justin Snelling is doing well lately, but he had to be on the practice roster for a reason. Simply put, Tampa Bay has owned this matchup, and will cover the spread for the fourth straight time. This line is mind-boggling high.

This is a crossroads game for Atlanta as a loss will seriously impact their chances to make the playoffs. I just do not think they are as good as they were last year or even earlier this season. Could be a good week to jump on the Bucs.
