NFL Week 12 Sunday Wagering – New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins

An eventual playoff spot could be on the line on Sunday in south Florida, as the Miami Dolphins (6-4 SU, 5-5 ATS), who have been as surprising as any team in the NFL this season, play host to the New England Patriots (6-4 SU, 5-5 ATS) in NFL sports betting action that is set to kick off at 1 PM ET at Dolphin Stadium (natural turf) in Miami Gardens, FL.

BetUS NFL betting odds: MIAMI -2, Total 42
NOTABLE STAT: Matt Cassel 400 yards passing last week vs. Jets

KEY NFL FOOTBALL BETTING TREND: Pats have covered 16 of last 22 on the road

In the BetUS NFL football betting odds, the Dolphins are listed as a two-point favorite, with a posted total of 42 points.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* NE has covered five of its last 16 games
* NE has won 20 of its last 25 games SU
* NE has played 12 of its last 17 games UNDER the total
* NE has covered 16 of its last 22 road games
* NE has won 10 of its last 12 road games SU
* MIA has won four of its last five games SU
* MIA has lost 18 of its last 25 games SU
* MIA has played four of its last five games UNDER the total
* MIA has covered four of its last 15 home games
* MIA has won four of its last five home games SU
* MIA has lost ten of its last 15 home games SU
* MIA has played five of its last six home games UNDER the total

Also…

* MIA has covered four of the last six meetings
* MIA has covered seven of the last ten meetings as the home team
* MIA has won 14 of the last 19 meetings SU as the home team
* Four of the last six meetings in Miami have gone UNDER the total

The Dolphins, winners of four games in a row, are campaigning to become THE story of this NFL season (so long as the Titans lose somewhere along the way, of course). Many factors have come together, as Ted Ginn Jr. has developed into a multiple threat, and Ricky Williams stamped himself a comeback of the year candidate (or would e, if not for Kurt Warner), joining Ronnie Brown in the Miami backfield.

This turnaround started with the first meeting against the Pats, in which the “Wildcat” variation was introduced to the offense, catching Bill Belichick & staff completely by surprise. Miami had 216 rushing yards in that game, with Brown scoring four touchdowns and passing for another, and rolled to a 38-13 victory. Well, no surprises in this one. If Belichick’s coaching history tells us anything, it is that he can make adjustments, and though they were not successful during the previous Miami game itself, do look for something that will shut the college formation down, given the extra time to get ready (New England played a Thursday game last week).

Meanwhile, the Patriots have been getting some rather consistent quarterback play out of Matt Cassel, who’s gone 77 for 117 in the last three games and threw for 400 yards against the Jets last Thursday. Cassel is averaging 220 yards a game and has a 66% completion rate, which compares very nicely with the figures of veteran Chad Pennington with Miami (67%, 8 TD’s, 5 INT’s).

The Pats would like to get BenJarvis Green-Ellis revved up a little more; the rookie out of Ole Miss had over 100 yards a couple of weeks ago. But this might be where Randy Moss looms extra large, against a Miami secondary that can be vulnerable to big plays. These are the defending Super Bowl champions, finding themselves in a “must” game that really is one, as a Miami sweep would, in effect, give the Dolphins a two-game lead in the race for either a division title or a wild card spot. We will take the points with New England, the two-point underdog in the BetUS Sportsbook pro football sports betting odds.
