NFL Betting – The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same For The Texans

The Houston Texans have done some growing in their fourth year under head coach Gary Kubiak. After finishing 8-8 in the previous two seasons, they have made a reason push for the playoffs. Unfortunately, some fourth quarter failures have left the Texans at their typical .500 and they are 5-5 after 10 games.

The Texans have lost two consecutive heartbreakers as kicker Kris Brown has missed two consecutive game-tying fourth quarter field goals, which have led to Texans’ losses. Now they have to face a team that has dominated them and won 14 of their career 15 matchups.

Colts offense versus Texans defense

The Colts offense has dominated the Texans defense and why should anything change? Has the Texans defensive line improved? Has their secondary improved?

The Texans will be facing the NFL’s top-ranked pass offense this weekend and he Colts offense line has allowed just eight sacks this year. Worst off for the Texans is that their defensive line has achieved just 13 sacks, which is the second-lowest amount in the NFL.

The Texans don’t have any shutdown corners and they are up against a unit that is the best in the NFL. On top of that, it is a unit that has consistently dominated them. The Colts will score points – it’s just a matter if the Texans can match them.

Texans offense versus Colts defense

Whether the Texans like it or not, they have to get their running game involved this week. The coaches have lost faith in running back Steve Slaton this season due to fumblitis but they have to trust him since he is their best option out of the backfield.

There is no question that the Texans won’t be able to match points with the Colts but one way that they can get an edge is if they run the ball and keep Peyton Manning on the sidelines.

The Texans did match the Colts punch-for-punch a couple of weeks ago in Indianapolis but home field advantage hasn’t meant much in this series. The Colts are comfortable playing in either stadium and they are not intimidated by the Texans crowd.

While the Colts have to just play their game, the Texans will have to go above and beyond the call of duty to win this contest.

Outlook & Pick
More than talent, the difference between the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans is execution. While the Colts are a perfect 9-0 because they continue to execute in tight situations and succeed when the result is in doubt, the Texans are completely the opposite. The Texans continue to fail in fourth quarters because they are the youngest team in the NFL and because they just can’t execute when necessary.

The Colts dominate the Texans and that trend will continue as they win and cover this weekend.

Pick: Colts -3.5
