Week 11 NFL Lines: MNF Titans vs. Texans

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Monday Night Football Week 11 NFL clash between the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans…

Monday Night Football Betting – Texans Try To Cool Streaking Titans

The Houston Texans will try to pick up the pieces after a discouraging loss prior to their bye week as the streaking Tennessee Titans visit on Monday night.

The Texans are currently at 5-4 and need a win to hang around in the mix for an AFC Wild Card berth. As of now, they would lose out on a tiebreaker with the Jacksonville Jaguars if they both finished with the same record but the Texans play the Jaguars in a couple of weeks.

For Houston, the name of the game will be fairly simple: stop the NFL’s leading rusher. The Texans defense has to stop Chris Johnson if they want to win this contest. The Titans game plan will be fairly basic but the problem is that their model is tried, tested and true.

If the Texans can run the ball successfully and quarterback Vince Young can make enough throws to keep the Texans defense honest and to keep the chains moving, the Titans should be able to win this game.

Titans offense versus Texans defense

What do the Titans need to do on offense to beat the Texans? Just view the tape from their previous game.

In the first meeting, Johnson has three touchdowns of 50 yards or longer. That’s a scary thought considering the hapless Kerry Collins quarterbacked that effort while the competent Vince Young now runs the show.

The Titans effective with Young, for whatever reason. He’ll never be a player that looks good in a combine or practice, and his numbers in the box score won’t look great, but the bottom line is that he’s a winner.

Texans offense versus Titans defense

There’s no question that the Texans offense – particularly quarterback Matt Schaub – had plenty of success against the Titans in their first matchup. Schaub threw for 357 passing yards but he’ll be facing a better defense this time around.

The Titans defense is generating a better pass rush and several members in the secondary are healthy.

Even so, the Texans are now at home and if they truly want to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, they have to impose their will.

Outlook & Pick
The Texans are a team with a frail psyche and it’s hard to trust them. They are on a big stage on Monday Night Football and they are coming off a bye week but they are still a risky proposition.

The Titans have improved since their last meeting and the Texans are still the same. The Titans should be able to move the ball on the ground regularly and their defense should play better than it did last time around. Meanwhile, the Texans will be fresh and focused given that they are off a bye.

Overall, this will be another back-and-forth game but if that’s the case, it’s tough to avoid the four-points offered with the Titans. Even if the Texans win, it will be a close result.

Pick: Titans +4

The Titans are on bit of a roll, but I like Houston to cover the four points ar home. Matt Schaub should be able to put some points on the board, but the Texans still need to figure out a way to control Tennessee RB Chris Johnson who is the main reason for the Titans recent success.
