After 10 weeks, reality has pretty much set in for the Chicago Bears. On defense, they clearly miss linebacker Brian Urlacher, their secondary isn’t what it used to be and the defensive line has also deteriorated. On offense, Jay Cutler has been deserted on an island as the receiving corps, offensive line and running game have let him down over the last month of the season.

The truth is that the Bears don’t have much of a team and more importantly for this weekend, they are facing an opponent who is capable of exposing a lot of their faults.

Eagles offense versus Bears defense

The Bears defense has given up 16 passing touchdowns this season, which is fifth-most in the NFL. This week, they’ll go up against DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, who have combined for eight touchdowns and eight plays of 40 yards or longer.

The Bears best chance of stopping this offense is getting to quarterback Donovan McNabb but considering they have just 18 sacks on the year – which is low for their standards in the Lovie Smith era – their prospects don’t look great.
If McNabb has time to throw, the Bears won’t win this game. The Eagles are a pass-oriented team and if their receivers have time to run free in the secondary, the Bears will get picked apart.

Bears offense versus Eagles defense

This is yet another bad matchup for the Bears.

Their quarterback, Jay Cutler, leads the league in interceptions thrown while the Eagles defense has picked off 15 passes, which is third most in the NFL. What has led to those interceptions has been poor pass protection and shoddy receiver play. This week, the Bears go up against a very good secondary where their receivers won’t have any advantages. On top of that, the Bears offensive line will be facing a defense that brings the heat. If the Bears had problems protecting Cutler when they faced the San Francisco 49ers, what is going to happen to him when they face an Eagles squad that blitzes nearly on every down?

Another problem for the Bears is that they don’t run the ball with any success, which is uncharacteristic. They are ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing and if they want any shot at winning this game, Matt Forte has to come up with a great effort.

Outlook & Pick
The Eagles have put up back-to-back clunkers but keep in mind that their two losses have come against the division-leading San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. In this matchup, they have significant edges on both side of the ball.
The Bears have lost four of their last five games and are simply not a good team this year.

Pick: Philadelphia -3

One reply on “Week 11 NFL Lines: Eagles vs. Bears”

In three primetime games this season Bear’s QB Jay Cutler has thrown 11 interceptions. Look for the Eagle’s secondary to come up with one or two picks in this game which could actually be the difference in a close game.
