NFL Sunday Re-cap: Tony Romo and the ‘Boys are Back and the Giants and Titans Continue to Show the Way

Tony Romo, playing with a bandaged pinkie, proved that you can indeed affect a reeling team when you’re the guy under center. For sports betting fans, the presence of Romo was the difference in what turned out to be a very good game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

Of course, Dallas and Washington weren’t the only two teams from the NFC East Division that showed NFL betting fans exactly what was in store for them the rest of this season. The New York Giants looked spectacular in destroying the Baltimore Ravens.

Let’s begin with Big D and the ‘Skins!

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins – – I made this my online football bet of the week because the Redskins were only favored by 1 ½ points at home. The rumor was that Clinton Portis wasn’t going to play. Well, he did. The rumor was that Tony Romo was going to play but that he wasn’t going to make a difference. Well, he did. The Redskins looked like winners up 10 to 7 after the third quarter but then the Cowboys running game kicked into gear and they pretty much just wore down that Redskins’ defense. The ‘Boys are back after winning this game. They are now 6 and 4 on the season and in a good position for a wild card playoff berth in the NFC Conference.

Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Giants – – The best the Cowboys can do is secure a wild card berth. Why? Because the New York Giants are just too good to lose the NFC East Division. The Giants were between a 6 ½ to 8 point favorite going into their game with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The G-Men didn’t disappoint, beating up rookie Joe Flaaco and the Ravens 30 to 10. The Giants are one of the best rushing teams I have ever seen in my life. Football betting fans have to take that into account when assessing another teams’ chances of beating these guys against the spread.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cincinnati Bengals – – The Eagles were a favorite in this game and there was no reason for them to be close to losing it, but Donovan McNabb threw three interceptions and fumbled the ball once. The Bengals, being the Bengals, couldn’t capitalize. So, Cincy’s dream of beating the Eagles on the BetUS money line went out the window once these two also-rans played for the tie in overtime. What’s with the Eagles? They can’t even hit the Over any more. They keep fumbling their way out of covering online spreads and their defense doesn’t look very good. By securing a tie, the Eagles have put themselves in a very bad position. A wild card berth is not out of reach but they’re going to have to step it up big time.

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – – This was a serious upset in the making, right? The Titans were 3 ½ point online wagering favorites on the road versus one of the BetUS Super Bowl future book favorites at the beginning of the season. That team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, secure a 14 to 3 lead going into half-time. What do the mighty Titans do? They score 3 touchdowns to the Jags’ zero in the second half and end up winning the game 24 to 14. Not only do the Titans cover against the BetUS online betting spread, bringing their season total against the spread to 8 and 2, they end up going 10 and 0 on the season. Remarkable.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers – – This was one rivalry game on Sunday that didn’t come close to living up to the billing. From my perspective, the Packers easily covering the 4 point online betting spread, was a bit of a reality check for both teams. The Bears have been treading water this season while the Packers haven’t lived up to their potential. Everything converged this past Sunday when the Bears came to town and immediately got throttled by the Packers 37 to 3. What happened to that Bears’ defense? It gave up 427 total yards. 200 of them came on the ground.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – – Another reality game as the Vikings, only 2 ½ to 3 point underdogs in their Sunday game versus the Bucs, proved that a victory against a fellow NFC North team a week before does not translate to handling a very good NFC South team. The Vikings were hot going into this. More than one NFL analyst believed that they would beat the Bucs straight-up and against the spread in this game. Neither occurred as Tampa held, beating the Vikes by a score of 19 to 13. The Vikings are now 5 and 5 on the season.

Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons – – Man, that Matt Ryan is a good quarterback! Unfortunately, he wasn’t good enough for the Falcons to beat the football betting spread. The Falcons ended up losing straight-up to the underdog Broncos 24 to 20. The Broncos are now the clear leader in the AFC West Division even though that division pretty much blows and the Broncos don’t seem to like to play defense. Still, beating a top NFC South team on the road says a lot about how good the Broncos could be if they just focus a bit more.

Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts – – It was touch and go there for a while but the slowly to develop second best team in the AFC Conference, the Indianapolis Colts, ended up getting their running game going and throttled the Texans 33 to 27. The Colts were favored by more than that. So, they didn’t cover the BetUS online wagering spread, but what they did do was solidify themselves as a wild card team in the AFC. After the Titans, this is the team to watch going down the stretch in the AFC Conference.

New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs – – It took some time but the Saints finally got into the end zone and beat the Chiefs by a score of 30 to 20. The online wagering spread dropped all the way from Saints –6 ½ to Saints –5 by kick-off. I thought the Saints would cover that spread and they did. The Chiefs had their opportunities but the Saints’ defense actually played during a few snaps in this game. The Chiefs have no chance of making the playoffs. The Saints are probably an also-ran in the NFC Conference. But this was a terrific online betting game for NFL betting fans.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks – – I’m not sure what the BetUS online wagering spread ended up at, but the Cardinals had to go all out to beat one of the worst teams in the NFL on Sunday. The Cardinals have that paper tiger look about them after barely beating the Seahawks on Sunday 26 to 20 and barely beating the San Francisco 49ers two weeks ago. Quarterback Kurt Warner for the Cardinals threw for over 300 yards for the fourth straight time. I’m not sure what that means for this team going down the stretch against the BetUS online wagering spread. They might want to get more of a run game going. We shall see.

San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – – Online football betting fans have been sharpening the fork for some time. Well, after yesterday’s loss to the Steelers it is official. We can now put that fork into the San Diego Chargers. Oh, don’t get me wrong, the Chargers played a spirited game by beating the BetUS online sportsbook betting spread, the Steelers were favored by 5 points, but San Diego lost yet again dropping them to 4 and 6 on the season. A loss is a loss even if it is by one lousy point. I expect to see Norv Must Go signs the next time the Chargers play a game in San Diego.
