NFL Sunday Re-cap: Giants Serve Notice and So Do Colts

What another whacky Sunday in the NFL. Sports betting fans have be thrilled at how things have been going so far this NFL season. What started out as a fairly traditional NFL season with favorites taking home most of the money, has turned into a strange, almost long-shots paradise with some of the lesser known teams in the NFL easily covering spreads.

We’ll start with those games that, if not outright upsets, were definitely surprises.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – – I’m not exactly sure where the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds ended up in this game, but there’s no way the Steelers, at home and with Big Ben starting, went off the favorites. They didn’t play like a favorite, that’s for sure, as the Colts beat the Steelers 24 to 20. That’s two games in a row where the Colts either covered the online wagering spread or beat the online wagering spread and they’ve done it against two of the better teams in the AFC, the Steelers and the New England Patriots. Three weeks ago the Colts had a shot to beat the Tennessee Titans on the road. They failed to do so. I can’t wait for that re-match!

New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles – – This was a straight-up upset as the Eagles ended up three point favorites at home versus the NFC East leading New York Giants. What can we say about the G-Men who are 8 and 1 on the season and have been winning games with a terrific running game and an attacking defense? The Giants are easily, in my mind, the best team in the NFL right now. Online betting fans had better start jumping all over that 7 and 2 record against the spread. The Giants are the team to watch going down the stretch. No doubt about it.

New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons – – The Saints ended up as my top pick this Sunday. They were coming off of a bye week, looked healthier on defense, and Drew Brees was on pace to break records. The Saints were 1 point underdogs against the spread. I mean, this was a lock! Uh…no. New Orleans turned out be one of the worst NFL betting picks I have ever made in my life by losing by 14 points to the Matt Ryan led Atlanta Falcons. They were atrocious in this game. The Falcons were fantastic. Atlanta is good enough to in the NFC South this season. The Saints? Their playoff dreams were probably shattered with this loss.

Tennessee Titans vs. Chicago Bears – – The Titans were favored by 3 ½ points going into this game. I really thought that the Bears had a shot even though they had to start “Sexy” Rexy Grossman in this. Well, I was wrong. The truth is that the Bears played a spirited first half but then were shut down by the Titans in the second half. Football betting fans, me included, have to start giving the Titans their due. They are a super solid team. What really impressed me was how Kerry Collins makes no mistakes when called upon to make the perfect throw. 9 and 0 on the season is serious football. These guys are for real. They are 7 and 2 against the BetUS online sportsbook betting spread.

Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots – – The wheels are off in Buffalo where the Bills, after a stirring victory over the San Diego Chargers, have become an online betting pariah. They were receiving 4 ½ points from the Patriots in this game but failed to even come close to beating the online betting spread when losing by 10 points. The Bills have a good team, but they haven’t made the necessary adjustments that great teams make during the season. That more than anything has been their Achilles heel. Lack of imagination means that this team stays home during the playoffs.

St. Louis Rams vs. New York Jets – – The score at half-time was New York Jets 40, St. Louis Rams goose egg. Yes. 40 to nothing. Online betting fans had to be thinking Rams in this after seeing the 9 ½ points they were receiving from the Jets, but the Jets came out and played like a Super Bowl contender. Thomas Jones, who happens to run for my fantasy football team, was fantastic racking up three touchdowns and 149 yards on the ground. What a stud that guy is! At least Rams’ coach Jim Haslett won’t have to worry about the Rooney rule because he isn’t going to come close to winning six games with this team!

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers – – The Chargers, the biggest disappointment in professional football this season, barely beat the Chiefs by a single point, 20 to 19, on Sunday. What a loser team this is. I mean, seriously. How often are the BetUS online odds makers going to make the Chargers a more than a field goal favorite against anybody only to see them blow it against the spread? This team is terrible. The Chiefs. Come on, Chargers! You were playing the Chiefs!

Carolina Panthers vs. Oakland Raiders – – Jake Delhomme was terrible but because the Panthers were playing the Raiders it didn’t matter. What a horrible showing from both teams. What a terrible game. The BetUS under was squashed when Carolina only scored 17 and the Raiders racked up 6. NFL betting fans had to like the way the Panthers covered the online wagering spread, but they weren’t even close to being as impressive as the Falcons on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans – – This should have been my best online bet of the weekend as Sage Rosenfels, in place of injured Matt Schaub at quarterback for the Texans, had no chance of getting the Texans to cover the 3 point online wagering spread against the Ravens. The Ravens are good enough to make the playoffs in the AFC Conference. They destroyed the online betting spread by pummeling the Texans 41 to 13.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Detroit Lions – – Daunte Culpepper fired up the Lions early on in the first quarter by marching them down the field and into the end zone. Then the wheels fell off as the Jaguars stormed back to easily cover the BetUS online sportsbook wagering spread by beating the Lions 38 to 14. The Lions haven’t won a game this season. 0 and 16? Maybe.

Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings – – The Vikings were favored by 2.5 points. They didn’t cover because all they needed was an extra kick to beat the Packers 28 to 27. Even though online wagering fans that put money on the Packers were happy, Green Bay fans couldn’t have been. They had this game. Green Bay is the best team in the NFC North. I’m convinced. But until they can start closing the deal, they won’t catch either the Bears or the Vikings.
