Wildcard NFL Lines: Green Bay vs. Arizona

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2010 Wild Card NFL playoff clash between the Green Bay Packers and the Arizona Cardinals…

Sunday NFL Betting –  Cardinals Limp Into Rematch

The Arizona Cardinals decided to rest their starters in a meaningless contest against the Green Bay Packers but somehow they came out of it with injuries. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin suffered a knee and ankle sprain in the first quarter and corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie also suffered a knee contusion.

People in Arizona are wondering how the Cardinals played key players in a game they decided to lay down.

When you do the math, the injury to Boldin, who likely won’t be able to play, the injury to Rodgers-Cromartie, who will play and be limited, along with the injury to left tackle Mike Gandy (out), the Cardinals will not be at full strength.

On top of that, they are facing a very hot team for a second straight week. We’ll see just how much experience and home field advantage factor.

Packers offense versus Cardinals defense

The Cardinals defense came out of nowhere to tear it up in the postseason last year and they’ll have to do the same on Sunday if they plan to advance.

The Packers have been on fire in the second half of the year and as the offensive line has improved and Ryan Grant has found space, their offense has been quite versatile. Throw in a passing game that features four or five good weapons and the Cardinals and their limited secondary might be in trouble.

The only way Green Bay doesn’t score in this game is if they turn over the ball regularly. That would be a venture away from the norm for them considering they had the best turnover ratio in the NFL this year.

Cardinals offense versus Packers defense

It sure would be nice to have a running game to lean on, especially when one of your best passing weapons may be out this week.

The Cardinals are 5-1 in the last two seasons without Boldin, so they won’t stress whether he plays or not. At the same time, he’s a big weapon and they’d rather have him in the lineup.

Without Boldin, the Packers will be able to shift extra attention to Larry Fitzgerald and let the Cardinals find other options. Leaning on the running game would be a great idea but the Packers have the best run defense in the NFL.

Outlook & Pick

The Packers have won seven of their last eight games and their only loss was a last-second miracle in Pittsburgh. Other than that, the Packers have been unstoppable.

The offensive line isn’t giving up as many sacks and the defense is getting better by the week. That defense finished third in the NFL overall and led the league in interceptions.

Sure, the Cardinals have experience and home field advantage, but the Packers win in Arizona last week will give them the confidence they need to succeed once again. Look for a closer game but the same result.

Pick: Packers -1

A team’s momentum coming into the playoffs is a huge factor for predicting who will win. Just looking at yesterday’s results proves this point. The Packers are playing their best ball of the year, while Arizona has been up and down recently which all points to a Green Bay win today.
