The puppies are barking. Underdogs have covered at an amazing 37-23 rate so far this season, thanks to better-than-expected covers seasons from the Chiefs, Rams and Lions. Things could change in a hurry as lines settle down, the public catches on and weaker teams seek their own level.

1. New York Jets (Last week 11)
They’ve run the table in the AFC East with wins over the Patriots, Dolphins and Bills.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (1)
Ben Roethlisberger is back. Hide the women and children. Scratch that. Just hide the women.

3. New Orleans (3)
Saints scoring is down 12 points a game from last year, but Cardinals should help fatten the number a bit this week.

4. Baltimore Ravens (9)
Running game has been OK, but Rice & Co. will have to step it up a bit when the cold weather arrives.

5. Green Bay Packers (5)
After struggling with Detroit and Philly, maybe these guys are a bit overrated.

6. New England Patriots (11)
Get used to BJGE. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, also known as the law firm, hits the holes faster than Maroney, is healthier than Taylor and could lead the league in YABH (yards after being hit).

7. Atlanta Falcons (6)
Are the Falcons this year’s Whodat team? Could be. Four winnable games are up next: Browns, Eagles, Bengals, Buccaneers.

8. Houston Texans (8)
Gary Kubiak says he’s happy to have linebacker Brian Cushing back with the team. Spoken like a coach whose defense has given up 408 yards a game (dead last in the league).

9. Kansas City Chiefs (7)
So you’ve beaten San Diego, Cleveland and San Francisco. As Shania Twain would say, That don’t impress me much. Now, beat the Colts at Indianapolis and we can sit down and talk again. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

10. Indianapolis Colts (4)
With the sons of vampire Bill Polian it’s always all about Peyton Manning. But . . . they are down yet another starting safety (Melvin Bulitt). Oil isn’t yet starting to leak yet, but it might be a good idea to take it into the shop anyway.

11. Chicago Bears (2)
Huge drop for the cubs. Just wondering why they couldn’t adjust to the Giants’ pass rush the same way they changed things around against the Cowboys.

12. New York Giants (23)
Maybe they were just due for a good game. Whatever. But they’re still a factor in the NFC East, which is looking a lot like the AFC West in 2008.

13. Minnesota Vikings (18)
Fourteen days without a game. Wonder if Favre is spending it on his farm in Mississippi?

14. Dallas Cowboys (19)
100 percent true: In Taunton, Mass. There is a restaurant with the following notice on it’s sign: Dez Bryant, Please Eat here.

15. Tennessee Titans (15)
With four of the next five on the road, the Titans could be flat-lining before turkeys even start to get slaughtered for Thanksgiving.

16. San Diego Chargers (21)
With the Chiefs making a little noise in the AFC West, the Chargers have to start doing some business. Fortunately they are at Oakland and then at St. Louis.

17. St. Louis Rams (26)
Would it surprise you to know that the Rams have score the most points and given up the fewest in the NFC West?

18. Washington Redskins (25)
I’ll take impossibly inconsistent and hard-to-read NFL teams for a hundred, Alex.

19. Jacksonville Jaguars (24)
Win over the Colts made a mess of the AFC South.

20. Cincinnati Bengals (14)
Defenses are starting to bunch up to stop Cedric Benson, but that hasn’t helped the offense too much – Bengals are 6th in passing yards and only 14th in scoring.

21. Miami Dolphins (12)
Cheer up guys. You get to play the Bills again, on Dec. 19.

22. Philadelphia Eagles (13)
Asante Samuel has a concussion. Couldn’t have come from making a tackle.

23. Denver Broncos (22)
Doesn’t seem possible, but Maroney has been worse with the Broncos than he was with New England.

24. Seattle Seahawks (16)
Sure bet: Take the Seahawks on the money line when they play at home. Fade them on the road. Next week – at Chicago. You can take it from there.

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20)
No sacks in three games, but Bucs insist they like what they’re seeing from tackle Gerald McCoy.

26. Arizona Cardinals (17)
Getting the feeling that NFC West teams are going to have to be satisfied with winning games only in their division.

27. Detroit Lions (28)
There is no way to underestimate what a victory over Green Bay would have done for this franchise, which is actually approaching mediocrity. BTW, Matthew Stafford is starting to throw again  but probably won’t play this week against the Rams.

28. Cleveland Browns (32)
Just when the flame gets close to Eric Mangini’s ample backside, the Browns win a game and save his job.

29. San Francisco 49ers (29)
The Alex Smith body of work is growing larger, and it looks like they are going to have to explore other real estate to find their franchise QB.

30. Oakland Raiders (27)
Raiders had smallest home crowd in four decades last Sunday. Time for Al Davis to start thinking about moving the team again.

31. Carolina Panthers (31)
A for effort against the Saints. Had they hung on, the Panthers would have set the record for knocking out 4,634,507 survivor pool contestants.

32. Buffalo Bills (30)
Memo to management: What took yoiu so long to figure out that three running backs was one too many?
