Jaguars vs. Bills Preview

The Buffalo Bills are starting the new decade the same way they performed for the entire previous one – on the outside looking in. Not invited to the party and driving past it and watching all the cool kids having a good time.

The Bills are now 0-4, have the look and feel of a 1-15 team and have become irrelevant to the playoff picture before the arrival of Columbus Day. They are led by a journeyman coach and a journeyman quarterback, the defense (which figured to be pretty good) has given up 68 points in the last two games, and the fan base has already at phase four of the five stages of grief.

“We’re a quarter of the way into our season and we haven’t played a good game yet,” said offensive guard Eric Wood after last week’s loss to the Jets. “There’s not a whole lot to say; it sort of speaks for itself.” Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

As much as the Bills and their diminishing number of fans would like to proceed right to the first pick in next April’s draft, NFL rules mandate that each team must play 16 games, and No. 5 is this Sunday against a Jaguars team oozing with confidence after upsetting the Colts last Sunday.

David Garrard is actually playing like a legit NFL quarterback (61 of 96 and an 80.7 rating) for the time being anyway, the running game is OK (Rashad Jennings is taking some of the pressure off Maurice Jones-Drew) and the Jags have somehow found a way to .500 despite giving up 40 more points than they have scored (111-71).

Picks: Jacksonville -1 and Under (41)

If there is ever a time to take the Bills – and a legitimate case can be made that there never is – it’s now. If the players have an ounce of pride they will play hard at home, if for no other reason than to avoid being booed halfway to Schenectady.

Jacksonville is coming off a big victory, the Jaguars have historically hated to play outdoors in the north, and the Jaguars are playing a sandwich game in between AFC South battles with Indianapolis (last week) and Tennessee (Oct. 18).

If not now, Buffalo, when?
