NFL Week 4 Betting Preview

Week three was even across the board as home teams went 8-8 ATS and game totals were also spit evenly at 8 under and 8 over. Six underdogs covered with five winning outright led by Jacksonville, Denver, and Indianapolis who all won on the road. The odds makers are starting to hone in on the lines as they now have gotten a good feel for all the teams. Here is a rundown of all this week’s games and the current lines as supplied by beted.com.

Sunday, Oct. 4

(Byes: Arizona, Atlanta, Carolina, Philadelphia)

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (-10.5)
Over/Under 39

The Lions are looking to start a winning streak but Jay Cutler and Devin Hester will be just a bit too much for them to handle. Look for Detroit to lose but still cover. This one just stays under.

Cincinnati Bengals (-5.5) at Cleveland Browns
Over/Under 38.5

The Browns are in serious trouble as Eric Mangini may be the first head coach to get the axe this season. Take the Bengals to cover but stay with the under.

Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans (-9.5)
Over/Under 41

Texan QB Matt Schaub has been hot the past two weeks and should be able to put enough points on the board to cover the spread. This one stays under as Oakland’s offense will struggle.

Seattle Seahawks at Indianapolis Colts NL
Over/Under NL

There is still no line on this game as they are waiting on the injury report for Seattle, most notably QB Matt Hasselbeck. If he is ready to play take the Seahawks and the points.

Tennessee Titans (-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars
Over/Under 41

Tennessee is ranked 29th against the pass and Jacksonville is ranked 32nd. Take the Titans to cover and go with the over.

New York Giants (-9) at Kansas City Chiefs
Over/Under 42.5

The Giants’ defense should be able to completely shut the Chiefs down. Look for New York to easily cover the 9, but they will not score enough to push this total over.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots (-2)
Over/Under 44.5

If the Patriots cannot effectively run the ball, the Ravens defense could make this a long day for Brady. Take Baltimore to win, as this game goes over on a late Raven touchdown.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington (-7)
Over/Under 37

The heat is on Jim Zorn in D.C, but Tampa starting Josh Johnson at QB could be just what the ‘Skins need. Take Tampa to lose but cover and go big on the under.

Buffalo Bills (-2.5) at Miami Dolphins
Over/Under 37

The Dolphins have to avoid going 0-4 with Chad Henne at QB. Look for a big dose of the wildcat as Miami finds a way to win. I do not expect a lot of scoring so stay with the under.

New York Jets at New Orleans Saints (-6.5)
Over/Under 45.5

A great match up between the Jets’ defense and the Saints’ offense. Drew Brees’ quick release will offset New York’s attack style defense. Take New Orleans to cover along with the over.

Dallas Cowboys (-3) at Denver Broncos
Over/Under 43.5

The Cowboys’ defense will be able to keep Denver out of the end zone. Look for a low scoring game with Dallas ending Denver’s three game winning streak.

St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers (-10)
Over/Under 37

It will be tough for the Rams to get a win with their 28th ranked offense going against the 49er’s 13th ranked defense. St. Louis will lose, but should be able to keep this closer than 10. This game definitely stays under.

San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers (-6.5)
Over/Under 43

The Steelers have shot themselves in the foot in their last two games with mistakes and turnovers. Look for them to get it together for the home town crowd winning big and scoring enough to take this game over.

Monday, Oct. 5

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)
Over/Under 46

The Vikings will try and control this game on the ground, while the Packers will take to the air. The student outplays the teacher as Aaron Rodgers has a big night. Take the Packers along with the over in this one.

This week is setting up for some low totals to stay under and some high totals to go over. My strongest plays would be Tampa @ Washington under and Green Bay @ Minnesota over.
