New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills Preview

One game is one game, but the Jets have somehow figured out a way to put a total of 59 points on the board in the last two weeks. If this continues and the defense can be even 75 percent of what everyone figures it will be, well the AFC East won’t be much of a race this season.

Mark Sanchez is not the scared deer that Jets fans thought he might be, and now the kid ranks 6th among NFL quarterbacks, and ahead of such luminaries as McNabb, Rodgers, Rivers, Flacco and Favre.

The Jets’ schedules gets a bit dicey in October, but they start the month with the Bills, who have issues galore and constitute as close to a playing bye week as exists in the league these days. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Buffalo anointed Trent Edwards as its starting quarterback way back when, then realized after two games that he was not the long-term answer, so Ryan Fitzpatrick earned the job (probably for the rest of the season, or at least until he gets hospitalized by a blitzing linebacker – whichever comes first) with a decent effort last Sunday in New England.

With New York’s defense nicked a bit (injured corner Darrelle Revis will spend another week on the sidelines, plotting his next work stoppage), the Bills at least have the potential to move the ball.

And Buffalo, nothing if not predictable, will try to gain control of the game on the ground, a decent strategy considering that 85 percent of its offense is centered around running backs Fred Jackson, Marshawn Lynch and C.J. Spiller.

Even the Bills coaching staff knows that that’s one too many RBs, hence rumors of a Lynch-to-Green Bay trade this week.

Picks: New York -5 and Over (36.5)

This is the Jets’ third straight division game, and with the offense moving the ball the Bills don’t figure to cover.

New York’s defense, even at less than full strength, should take full advantage of a mediocre-at-best Buffalo offense line that was not improved on at all during the offseason.

The story line is pretty clear – Jets take control defensively early, stuff the run and force the Bills to play from behind. Jets jump routes, intercept a few passes. Bills fans boo. Again.
