NFL Game Summaries – Week 17 Capsule Matchups

Week 17 in the NFL is in the books. The Weisguy takes over for Matt and offers up these recaps for your NFL viewing pleasure.

Green Bay 45 – Detroit 41

The Packers may have been resting some people but they still won one of the most exciting games of the year.  QBs  Matt Stafford and Matt Flynn put on masterful aerial performances.

Jacksonville 19 – Indianapolis 13
The Jags used another huge game by MoJo Drew to assure that the Colts would have the top spot in the draft.  What will they do with it?

Miami 19 – New York Jets 17
Mark Sanchez and the Jets just couldn’t get the job done.  It was an embarrassing game in which they lost despite gaining 164 more yards than the Dolphins.  This team might need to be broken up.

New Orleans 45 – Carolina 17
Drew Brees put a little extra mileage on the single season yardage record with another stellar day.  I am not sure it was enough to snag the MVP but enough to make the Saints the hottest team coming into the playoffs.

Chicago 17 – Minnesota 13
A real ugmo of a game with twice as many turnovers as touchdowns.  Not sure what the Vikings are doing.  Do they really want to find out that Joe Webb is better than first rounder Christian Ponder?

New England 49 – Buffalo 21
A fitting end to both team’s seasons.  Buffalo was up 21-0 before the Pats roared back with 49 unanswered points.  The best TE tandem in the game did serious damage, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski were both over 100 yards.

Tennessee 23 – Houston 22
The Titans got the win they needed but they didn’t have the tiebreaker advantage to hop over the Bengals.  Houston really isn’t looking good heading into the playoffs.  Do they even have a chance?

Philadelphia 34 – Washington 10
The Eagles finish strong, especially with three TDs in the final quarter of the season.  If only they had figured things out a little sooner.  This team should be among top contenders next year. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

San Francisco 34 – St. Louis 27
San Fran needed to win to stay locked into the #2 spot in the NFC.  This was wasn’t as close as it appears as the Rams scored two late TDs to make the score respectable for their home fans in the finale.

Atlanta 45 – Tampa Bay 24
I thought I was seeing an error when the ticker showed the Falcons up 42-0 in the second quarter.  After that the Falcons took their foot off the gas.  Tampa just lost their heart midway through this season.

Arizona 23 – Seattle 20
Both teams were strong in the second half and it was fitting that this game went to overtime to decide who is the second best team in the NFC West.  Super even game as both teams ran the exact same number of plays.  How often does that happen?

San Diego 38 – Oakland 26
Another tease of a performance by the Chargers.  Phillip Rivers has shown down the stretch that he can still be elite.  Oakland looked horrible at home in game that could have put them into the playoffs.

Kansas City 7 – Denver 3
Kudos to KC for sticking it to their rivals…but Denver made it in anyway thanks to the Raiders simultaneous failure.  Everyone has bad games but nobody has bad games like Tebow.

Pittsburgh 13 – Cleveland 9
Big Ben did play and the Steelers took care of business.  It wasn’t exciting action but at least Cleveland put forth a good effort in a game that didn’t matter a lick to them.

Baltimore 24 – Cincinnati 16
It turned out that the Ravens needed the win with the Steelers also winning.  Lucky for the Bengals things broke their way even with the loss.  I am happy for Cincy.

New York Giants 31 – Dallas 14
It was no surprise to me that the Giants made the plays and the Cowboys didn’t.  If you didn’t know who Victor Cruz was before you do now…and now he has a chance build his rep in the playoffs.
