We certainly have some big games on the sked this week. In our Week 15 parlay, let’s examine tonight’s game plus a key AFC South and NFC East matchup.

San Francisco 49ers vs San Diego Chargers

Tonight, 8:20 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Chargers -9

Two teams that once looked out of it, the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers, are now within a game of tying for their respective division leads, so tonight should be a spirited affair.

Some bettors may worry that the nine-point spread is too much for San Diego. After all, its 31-0 win over Kansas City last week was a bit artificial with Chiefs backup quarterback Brodie Croyle (now 0-10 as an NFL starter) replacing Matt Cassel (appendectomy).

The 49ers moved the ball sharply last week. Taking the starting pivot job back from Troy Smith, Alex Smith threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns as the 49ers routed the Seahawks 40-21. But, before you declare this game an upset special, look at San Francisco’s schedule and recent success. Its running game exploded in Week 12 against the Cardinals 30th-ranked run defense; its aerial attack went off in Week 14 against the Seahawks’ 30th-ranked pass defense.

Newsflash for San Fran: it won’t be as easy scoring on the league’s No. 1 defense on the road. Prediction: Chargers 31, 49ers 17

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Indianapolis Colts

Sunday, December 19, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Colts -5.5

This is pretty much it for the Indianapolis Colts’ season. The Jags keep pulling out improbable wins, so it seems the only way Indy will catch them in the AFC South is to control its own destiny and beat them at home this weekend.

For all the chatter about Peyton Manning “struggling” against the Jags in his career, he has a 99.4 passer rating with 36 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions over 18 career starts against them. That doesn’t look too bad to me. Also, last week’s effort against Tennessee suggests his slump could be over. The Colts committed to the run more and it made Manning’s throws tougher to anticipate. After 11 interceptions over a three-game stretch, he threw no picks last week with 319 passing yards and two scores.

The Jaguars will definitely run on Indy’s Swiss Cheese interior defense but I like the Colts to score enough to cover here. Barely. Prediction: Colts 30, Jaguars 24

Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants

Sunday, December 19, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Giants -3

Two 9-4 teams battling for the NFC East? Yes please. This should be a fun one. For the most part, the Eagles haven’t slipped up much of late; they continue to stretch the field with Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson and lead the NFL in total offense. But did the Cowboys exploit a bit of a weakness last week? They upped the pressure on Vick, put some heat on him and forced him into his first multi-turnover game of the season.

The Giants did a good job keeping Vick in check earlier this year, holding him to 258 passing yards, no touchdowns and 3.1 yards per rush. Playing at home (and really heating up of late thanks to Brandon Jacobs’ resurgence), I think they can even the season series. Prediction: Giants 24, Eagles 20
