NFL Opening Day Preview

The 2010 NFL regular season kicks off on Thursday, September 9thwhen the defending Super Bowl Champion, New Orleans Saints begin their title defense at home against Minnesota.

The following is a brief review of the current Week 1 point spreads and over/under line (Totals-NFL Lines) for all the games in week one.

NFL WEEK 1 – Preview and Predictions

Thursday, Sep. 09 8:30 P.M. (ET)
Week 1 Minnesota at New Orleans (-4)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 51.5

In a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game, the Vikings extract a bit of early revenge with the ageless one Brett Favre throwing the game winning TD late in the fourth quarter.

Sunday, Sep. 12

1:00 P.M. (ET) Week 1 Denver at Jacksonville (-1.5)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 40

The Broncos get off to another good start with a fairly easy win in Jacksonville. The 2010 season is shaping  up to be a long one for the Jaguars.

Week 1 Miami (-3) at Buffalo
Week 1 Over/Under Line 38

Each team had big wins at home last season against each one another, but Buffalo’s offense has done little to improve since last year and will struggle to score against an improved Dolphin defense.

Week 1 Detroit at Chicago (-7)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 42.5

With new offensive coordinator Mike Martz calling the plays, Chicago QB Jay Cutler has a big opening day at home as the Bears roll all over the Lions.

Week 1 Indianapolis (-3) at Houston
Week 1 Over/Under Line 47

One thing Houston has yet to figure out how to do is beat Indianapolis. This game will be close and could actually end up as a push but stick with the Colts if you have to go one way or the other. Bet on Football at Sportsbook.com

Week 1 Atlanta (-2) at Pittsburgh
Week 1 Over/Under Line 38.5

It is hard to know what to expect from the Steelers in light of the whole Roethlisberger fiasco. Look for Pittsburgh to still grind out a win in front of the rabid hometown crowd.

Week 1 Oakland at Tennessee (-7)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 41

In a bold prediction, new Raider QB Jason Campbell leads his new team to an impressive win on the road to give Oakland its first opening day win since 2002.

Week 1 Cleveland at Tampa Bay (-2.5)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 36

In a battle between two of the worst offenses in the league last year, the best play on this one could be the under despite the low total. If you have to pick, take the Browns and the points as Tampa was 1-7 at home last year.

Week 1 Carolina at N.Y. Giants (-7)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 40

The new look Giants defense will be too much for QB Matt Moore and a depleted Carolina offense as New York opens the New Meadowlands with a big win.

Week 1 Cincinnati at New England (-6)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 44

One thing New England rarely does is lose at home as it went 8-0 last season at Foxboro in the regular season. QB Tom Brady hopes to have WR Wes Welker back which will only help the Patriots cause.

4:15 P.M.(ET) Week 1 San Francisco (-2) at Seattle
Week 1 Over/Under Line 38

This should be a great opening day divisional rivalry between the two teams most likely to compete for the NFC West title. Stick with Seattle getting points at home on opening day.

Week 1 Green Bay at Philadelphia Pick
Week 1 Over/Under Line 46

Packer QB Aaron Rodgers and a stingy Green Bay defense combine to ruin the Eagles home opener featuring their new starting QB Kevin Kolb. Do not be surprised if the boos start to rain down early in the second half.

Week 1 Arizona (-3.5) at St. Louis
Week 1 Over/Under Line 41

In the other divisional matchup in the NFC West with QB’s Matt Leinart starting for Arizona and Sam Bradford possibly starting for St. Louis this is another good game to play the under. The Cardinals should be able to come away with a win, but I like the Rams to cover.

8:20 P.M.(ET) Week 1 Dallas (-3.5) at Washington
Week 1 Over/Under Line 42

Dallas had a field day against QB Donovan McNabb in his last two games in Philadelphia. In his first game as a Redskin, he will find a way to keep it close, but not close enough to cover.

Monday, Sep. 13

7:00 P.M.(ET) Week 1 Baltimore at N.Y. Jets (-3)
Week 1 Over/Under Line 37.5

This could be a possible preview of this season’s AFC Championship game as these are two of the best teams in the conference. In what should be the best game of week one, take the Ravens to win this one outright in a defensive battle.

10:15 P.M.(ET) Week 1 San Diego (-6) at Kansas City
Week 1 Over/Under Line 45

San Diego had little trouble against Kansas City last year, winning both games by an average of 29.5 points. The Chargers offense will miss WR Vincent Jackson, but it will not be enough to keep them from winning big.
