San Diego has clinched the second best record in the AFC and the have been rolling right along, winning ten straight games and never looking in too much trouble outside of the comeback against the Giants. The Chargers have looked dominant since the bye week and they have stayed relatively health most of the way as well. The running game and the passing game have both been clicking and with tight end Antonio Gates returning to a prominent role. The big question in this one is just how much will the Chargers starters play. With little to play for but a week of rest ahead, the Chargers will probably want to avoid rust but they won’t want to risk injury either. San Diego has been through this process enough times to understand the importance of momentum so I don’t look for them to just tank this thing.

The Washington Redskins could be ready to undego yet another coaching change as this could be Jim Zorn’s last game as head coach. The Skins inconsistancy on the sidelines and lack of continuity has carried over to incisistancy on the field. I would venture to guess that Jason Campell may be on his way out as well as part of a total house cleaning which is bound to be part of the new regime. Most of the players in this game will be auditioning for jobs, either with Washington or elsewhere and will need to give it all they have. Even though the bulk of this game is bound to be played against Charger back ups, I’m not so sure the remaining Skins starters, that aren’t already out for the season, can match up.

San Diego is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall and 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 at home against teams with a losing road record. Washington is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall.

A few weeks back I thought Washington could play respectably and I was rewarded by a lambasting by the New York Giants for a home night game. Last week I thought they could stand up against rival Dallas and make a game of it. This week I admit they just aren’t very good and a West Coast road game isn’t going to help matters.

This is a tough one to call. Washington has appeared to hang it up for the season and San Diego has nothing to play for. I’ll go with the overall team talent and take the Chargers -4
